Carrier parts: MK-II* Mantlets
5 Attachment(s)
Guys,
I am getting a local fabrication shop to make me up 3 of the MK-II* mantlets. The first 3 pics are of the mantlets under construction. The last 2 are of an original MK-II* mantlet that I'm borrowing. While they are not exactly the same, they are going to look PDC - pretty damn close - once they have been polished, painted and installed. 3 MK-I* mantlets are next - decided to get the tough ones out of the way first. Will post more pictures when they are done. Cheers, |
I could use one - dare I ask how much?

Getting the bends with the correct rad is the trick... The bend washes out as it meets the top of the plate. I was lockey enough to get access to a press with the right dies !

Completed fabrication - MK-1* & MK-11* Mantlets
Guys,
I just got back from being away last week. I will post pictures tomorrow evening of the mantlets. Charlie, I will be able to answer your pricing question shortly. I picked them up last Friday just before I headed off. My guy Steve was working on finishing them up last week while I was away. Monday evening then….. |
MK-1* Mantlets

Here are some pics of the MK-1* mantlets that I had fabricated. I was using a "borrowed" MK-II* mantlet as a pattern. I need these two but I can have more made up. They look PDC - pretty damn close! Cost is $335 Cdn each - without hinge pin or lock toggle. Send me a PM if you need dimensions or are interested in placing an order. I understand if the moderator wants to more this thread.

MK-11* Mantlets

Here are some pics of the MK-II* mantlets that I had fabricated and again, I was using a "borrowed" MK-II* mantlet as a pattern. I need these two so I have a spare 3rd. They look PDC - pretty damn close! Cost is $365 Cdn each - without folding front plate hinge, hinge pin or lock toggle. Send me a PM if you need dimensions or are interested in placing an order. I understand if the moderator wants to more this thread. Proceeds of the sales of the mantlets will assist me in donating one of these mantlets to the Huntsville Legion's MK-II carrier that is missing it's front mantlet.

MK2 Mantlets
The difference between a MK1 and a MK2 is one is all bent parts and the other is welded .Be sure you get the right one for your carrier.Or make the welded one to look like it was bent .

If folk in the UK want these I can make them as a blank you can drill your own holes etc..
mk1 mantlets only though. |
MK11 Mantlets
My Canadian MK11 has a welded plate and the MK1 is bent. When I said welded I ment the piece that is bolted to the hinge

Replies for MK-I & II Mantlets
Guys,
I've been in and out of my shop over the last 3 weeks so I've been playing catch up this week. I will attempt to answer my PM's and emails this weekend. There are similarities and differences between the MK-1* and the MK-II* mantlets. I want to make sure I understand those differences and how the mantlets fit to the frontal armour before I start agreeing or disagreeing with what I am trying to have fabricated. Back at you all shortly. Richard |
Gents, when I made my first Mk1 mantlet, I borrowed a mk2 type with the hinged flap, the Manlet itself was made From a single bent piece of steel. It might of been a british one. The particular carrier it came off is featured in Nigel's vol 3 'Maccolm Caley' carrier. Ron Hows your Mk2 mantlet made?, bent or welded?.

Try Forged as opposed to Fabricated.
Note: A Universal MkI and a Universal MkI* are basically the same when it comes to the gunners upper protection plate or "mantlet" Both are forged armour plate (which will break if serious efforts are made to bend it cold) Note; As Michael R's post came though while I was posting, I now see that they are all forged but that the later ones have a fabricated flap |
