SHORT 25 PDR casing

I bought on the internet a short 25 Pdr casing.
It is only 8 1/2 inches hight, the regular one are 11 1/2 hight.
The primer look normal but the casing got 4 lines of small groves all around .
Could this be a prototype to save brass.

Trench art?

short ammo

The Aussie Short 25pdr was suppose to be for ease of transport, hence less weight/size. I'm unaware of a specific shell for this gun, though plotting equipment was put out with 25 and 25 short variants.

I think Jack may be closer to target.

Maybe for shorter distances... :D sorry bad, very bad.

Wayne's right: same ammunition for both 25pdr and 25 pdr Short guns, but the max charge weights were restricted for the Short gun, and they were not permitted to fire 'Charge Super'.

With the shorter barrel and charge restrictions, two different sets of plots were required.

Or.....

There's no chance it's a blank fire casing for salutes etc?

Can't comment about Canada, but in Australia the blank for salutes, etc, was a standard cartridge case with small propellant charge, a combustible wadding and a cotton cloth seal in the end, much of which burnt when fired.
