CMP in Switzerland
 

...I was really surprised today to learn that the Swiss Army has used CMP-trucks as well after WW2.

...the one on the pic has been found in a scrapeyard in 1990 and restored very well during the following 5 years:

I have come across several of these ex-Swiss CMPs they even have dual language data plates in what appears to be French and German have photos of the data plates will scan and post.

As I understand Southeaster Equipment in Georgia imported a number of the derrick version I seen three all Fords.

Sadly, I could not find any Swiss CMP pics in my files but I did run across this very, very poor image from a newspaper format automotive publication of the 1970s. Sorry for the quality but I played with it for quite a while, my editing skills are still limited, and this is the best I could do for the moment.

I was also 2 days in Birmenstorf and took some pics of this truck. Will post them, when I'll have developed my pics.

I've got 1 or 2 books with CMP's in Swiss Military Service. I'll try to scan these and will post them soon.

... I've finally found 2 pics from a Ford F-60 with a Swiss 10,5 cm howitzer gun. They are from the fantastic book called "Fahrzeuge der Schweizer Armee" (Vehicles of the Swiss Army) by Markus Hofmann. The Fords where bought during 1945 - 1946 and were called "M Gelastw 2,0 t 4x4" (military truck).

Just a little query, though... if the photos come from a book by Markus Hofman, why do they appear here with your name as copyright owner?

Bill I think you will find that you are wrong. Just because one purchases a book does not mean that you automaticly own the copywrite to whats in it.

Same as my model magazine articles. The magazine purchases the article to put in their publication but copywrite of pics and the article still belong to me.

So unless the pic was originly his he can't claim copywrite.

I think Bill's comment was tongue in cheek!

Just to quickly recap on the generalities of copyright - for "official" type pics copyright generally subsitsts with the company or government for a set period, usually 50 years from the date of the photograph, but with a privately shot pic, copyright is with the photographer or estate for 50 years after his or her death.
However I stress this is only a generality and it's best to check carefully.
In the case of pictures published on the net, my rule of thumb, based on the fact that there is no commercial use here is to credit the source.

sorry guys must be an off day for me as I did miss the 'tongue in cheek' reply.

I will also honestly admit to sharing pics for reference only with a lot of modelers not knowing (or forgetting) where they originally came from. But I do try and acknowledge the original holder where possible. But to claim copywrite for something that is not mine..........hmmmmmm.:rolleyes:

You only have six posts on the forum, let's not lose you as you obviously have some good stuff to share.

While the issue of copyrighted photos may not be a big issue in Switzerland, it certainly is in the UK, the US, Canada and the Anzac area. Particularly when it comes to sharing things over the intenet.

All of us forget to give proper credit from time to time and that is understandable. As well, many, many of the photos we get from books were originally obtained from a wide number of sources where it is hard to really understand who owns the picture.

However, I think you get the sense that it is not a good idea to copyright a picture from a book if that picture did not originally come from you. Especially, on the Internet.

Lets hear from you some more. You do have a contribution to make it seems.

BTW, that book was published in 2000, I would like a copy, is it still available?

I agree with Bill mate. Please do not take my comments the wrong way. We all love to share and I know that I am interested in these Swiss CMP's.
