Duplicate Posts

Since about 0730 EDT this morning I have noticed a number of instances of double or multiple duplicate posts. I have deleted them as applicable, but am curious as to the experiences of those who have made them; has this been a simple "timing-out" thing, or something else?

I have experienced periodic slowdowns in general internet connections today, so I'm trying to establish whether it's this or a potential server problem which I can address through channels.

Thanks for any observations you might have.

freezes

Hi Geoff,

I've noticed some of mine double posted too. As you probably also know, I don't have powers to delete any of my posts...only to edit.

What happened for me when the DB Posts happened was that things sort of "freeze" once I hit to submit post, and hangs there. I hit stop or escape and try again, same "freeze/nothing happens" so I give up and go away, only to see the post(s) "took" sometimes, afterall.

This site has crashed or something on me lots too, sometimes while posting ... so I go to the temp link you gave us and login there ... and as you know, MLU doesn't like my computer when I go in through that link. Its "disobedient":p

SO... in my case, duplicate posts seem to be from actually attempting the same post more than once because the first attempt didn't show completion.

Sorry... not good at explaining myself here. Hope you "get" what I mean.

Hi Geoff;

I think it falls under "potential server problem " - it's acting really strange today, I've gave up trying to post.

Also, is there something wrong with the time keeping on the forum? For London here, the forum time is about two hours out of whack.

And for :yappy: ........:p cause I know she's going to read this....

The same applies from down under - the browser times out although a couple of the posts I've made have gone OK.
New threads seem to be working though.

Yes, server times ARE out, have been since they moved us. I asked them to reset the server clock but they haven't yet. I simply adjusted locally through usercp to get it right - for the moment.

I WILL be taking the forum down tonight to back it up, and I'll take an extra few minutes to run some diagnostic tests. If they fail to find anything, I'll monitor overnight then open a ticket tomorrow.

Thanks guys.

Time and posts

Yep, time two hours behind here, too.

Double posts? Yes, had a couple of those also. I thought it was my Doppleganger at work.

Re: Time and double posts

It's now 2303hrs and yet the forum says it 2003hrs, so, somehow, in the last couple of hours, the forum lost an hour, instead of being two hours out of whack for London, it's now three hours out......hmmm......:confused:

Re: Mark

Since the move, mine has always been three hours out. My local time is set on GMT-2. I'll work on that, but first...

I've done another daily backup, and run some diagnostics through a built in php-rpair utility. All seems OK for now, but let's monitor this overnight and into tomorrow morning. If you make a post and it appears to stop halway through, do NOT just go back and do it again... give it some time.

:cheers:

Hi Geoff;

Reference my last post, I didn't even know that it posted, it just stopped and stayed that way for awhile once I had pressed 'Submit Reply', so I went back to home and out.

Cheers :)

Just to chime in here, had it happen in the last 48 hours or so I would guess, where the post hung up. I checked after about a half hour and it still wasn't there and about an hour later it was.
I don't know the time exactly.

When it hung up, I just exited the site as normal and the post did not double up.
Bill

In the case where loading seems to stop, try opening a second window and checking to see if the post took. If so, close the first window; if not, go back to the first one and wait for it.

Seems to be working fine this morning, except for the time issue, maybe it was one of those 24 hour bugs.....:D
