Chev CMP ignition switch

Does anybody have a spare CMP Chev ignition switch ?

I need one for my C8 . The switch that came with my C8 is the original key type switch ( early Chev cab 11's had a key ig. switch ) . The original key type switch has a armoured cable connected to the 6 volt coil , making it difficult to service .

I am changing to the later keyless switch

Anyone know where to get one ?

Mike

Not sure understand which you are looking for?

Hi Mike

Not sure which you are looking for the Key type with armored cable or thumb switch with the armored cable. My experience with the 12 is that they are the same switch one having a key with thump lever attached to a key stub or just a thumb lever with a barb that pushes into the switch and the switch doesn't really have a tumblers.

Here is a short video of taking the lock apart https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yi3P03DxP_s

If you have a key type with tumblers and a key that fits and one of the thumb levers you can look at just cutting off the key inserting it in the lock and then putting the thumb lever in place. Problem I've had with the thumb levers is the barb that holds it in place often breaks off. I've use a little epoxy glue to hold it in place.

switch

Phil

Gee it is more complicated than I thought .

I really need a switch without the armoured cable . Maybe I will have to look at a WW2 Jeep switch

Jeep ignition switch

Hi Mike
MV Spares market reproduction Jeep ignition switches at $25 each which is in my opinion a reasonable price but shipping may make it prohibitive.

cab 13

Does the cab 13 Chev use the armoured ignition lead ?

Pat 13 Chevys used two types of switch

Hi Mike

My 1942 C60S has a thump switch which doesn't have the armored cables just standard screw terminals. The switch is the same as civilian ignition switch with no lock tumblers for the key has the slot for the key to this has been added the thumb knob.

The lock and switch are very similar to ignition switches use on GM trucks into the 1980s, will look for some pictures.

My 1945 HUP has a standard toggle switch.

Cheers Phil
