US Army's latest light vehicle (might as well be a Jeep)

http://polaris.hs.llnwd.net/o40/mil/...heets/mrzr.pdf

I caught a newsfeed story about the US Army changing the name of its ultralight Ground Mobility Vehicle which was a name used by SOFCOM for a heavy HMMWV fighting vehicle.

It seems the Army wants something to move paratroopers et al from a landing zone more quickly to the objective than by the Mk II Leather Personnel Carrier, Black, Lace-Up. The links mentioned Polaris has a four-seat side-by-side utility vehicle already in limited service. I checked the link and wonder of wonders, the MRZR is just about the same size and performance as a WWII Jeep. This is more powerful, but it is interesting how the needs of the soldier have perpetuated and manifested almost the same way twice.

Very cool indeed perhaps I can talk the Cold War Collection into purchasing one of these lol. Its been awhile Terry you should come out sometime and check out the M151 I'm almost done with the body work getting ready for paint.

Hi Terry

Would you check the link it keeps taking in loop to this posting?

Wonder if this same vehicle that showed up in an engineering unit near me?

Cheers Phil

I made a little comparison spreadsheet to confirm my suspicions.

The MRZR is 500 lbs lighter than the MB, has twice the capacity, is effectively the same dimensions, but has a 2' longer wheelbase. The MRZR is a 2 cylinder turbo charger 875cc engine with 88 versus 60 horses. The suspension is 4-wheel independant and gives 11 inches of ground clearance versus maybe 8 inches. The gas tank tiny at 7 1/4 gallons, and wheels are 9x14's. I imagine the ride is good and hope the fittings are worth the sticker price. Although it is hard to find an equivalent, the retail price of one of these is somewhere around CA$21,000.
