Has the supply of project carriers diminished so much that collectors are obliged start with "blown up" vehicles? (OK, there are some fantastic examples of range hard targets cut and spliced with kilometres of welding wire, and cubic metres of filler, but those are heavy armour.)

I don't believe it is a battlefield relic from the Bastogne area. Most likely an ex-firing range relic polished up with a nice story....

Looks like range target to me too, see white circle on side.
I would take it as spares but that's all.

i think you are wrong about the ad, the seller clearly states it was a relic from the battle of the bulge and by the look of the damage it must have been in the thick of the fighting. a truly remarkable find and an easy resto for a good welder. I know all this to be true because my unicorn told me it was

If anyone in the whole war deserved medals, it was the guys in that carrier. They were getting hit from all sides.

The guy who restores this also needs a medal!!

I would like to have started with that much. There are two carrier projects in England that started out worse. There is a Loyd, project that has started from far worse.
And yes, he deserves a medal!

This Carrier was together with several carriers , and some Loyd`s on the Firing range in Elsenborn . They all had typical Belgian army lighting modifications , so they must have been used till the 60ies . The Loyd now under restauratin came also from the same batch.

The increase in Carrier prices has brought a huge number Carrier Projects on to the market but the bubble has burst now for those thinking they can get vast inflated sums for their vehicles, restored or otherwise.

Alistair's Loyd came from that batch...I know because I located it for him and he owes me a pint ��

Battle of the Bulge.... Gotta love these people ! Actually thinking on, this wasn't the carrier that landed in France along side sea wolf was it ? :D

W.E.L.L, theoretically speaking it did come off a range and at one time the Bulge was one BIG range, so an obscure link could be made!!! :bang:

That's right Richie, I still do! However my wife and my bank manager would probably rather punch you on the nose :fry:

I have seen a couple of other photos of that mk3 welded carrier wreck from when it was recovered from Elsenborn along with the two Loyds that I acquired. The carrier may be of use for small parts but anything large will be too distorted to use.....I know all about that! However it's often the small parts that are hardest to find.

The key is to have an many wrecks as possible, thus on the law of averages you should improve your chances of building one good machine. If I hadn't had two, the project would have died long ago.
