Anti Aircraft Bren Mount
Hi guys,
Just wondering if anyone is able to provide me with a picture of what the anti aircraft bren mount for the carriers look like. I believe it is a two part piece and I have the internal piece but will need to make the external. Also any pictures of the boys mount would be helpful as well. Chris |
Firstly Chris, what sort of carrier do you have?
Hi Lynn, It's an Australian LP2
Sorry Chris, I can't help with that one. Someone will chime in.
I've got one in the shed, I'll see if I can find it an take some photos for you
No worries. That would be much appreciated, thanks mate

Is this what you're after? Ignore the bend in it, that was caused by a Bedford RL canopy bow

That is the part that I have but I was led to believe that there was an outer tube that this would go into and ratchet or similar on each level of the inner tapers to adjust for different heights. Is that correct?
That's correct, but the part you describe is welded into the air dam. Early LP2 carriers here in NZ didn't have the AA mount. Im unsure what the story is with Aussie carriers. Have you got an air dam for your carrier?
Hi mate, right. silly question, what is the air dam?
Chris |
Air dam or air scoop as some call it, sits against the centre bulkhead and either bolts in or welds in depending on the carrier you've got. It channels air into the airfilters and radiator. It sits taller than the centre bulkhead and the top edge is radiused. The oil cooler and radiator sit inside the air dam.
Righto, yes it does have one
Righto, so after speaking with a few people, I was informed that the aa mounts were not present on earlier carriers such as mine. What I am now wondering is if there were another type of bren mount that they made for the carriers similar to how the boys one worked?

Check your PMs mate
