GMC instrument glass MPH

I am confused about the embossed instrument cluster glass on Chev CMP's with the rectangular civilian panel: were they 0-80 mph or 0-100 mph?
I have Canadian-packaged glass 0-100 mph with gauges marked Temperature, Gas, Battery and Oil. I have seen other glass marked 0-80 and Water, Fuel, Amps and Oil. The glass is not illustrated in my parts books. The broad interior line diagram of the cab interior in the MB-C1, 2 maintenance manuals show a 0-100mph gradation but no detail on the wording for the gauges....... Brian

Both my Cab 12 CGT's have 0-100mph, temp, gas, battery and oil glass in there cluster.

100 mph in a Chev?!?

Must be for a CGT being pushed down a steep slope by a full crew, ammunition load plus 25-pdr gun.... :D

To the best of my observations.....

Hi Brian

Based on what I have at the abrn and seen/copied from various web site psotings.......Chevrolet civilian/rectangular Speedo is always 100 mph BUT the GMC identical set up with different colour is 80 mph.

In either case it is just wishful thinking....

1941 CMP speedo 0-100

Hi Brian

I concur with Bob all the CMP Chevys I have seen with the civi dash are 0 - 100.

Bob it is not wishful thinking it is terminal velocity when dropped from a great height.

Cheers Phil

Glass

Hi all , please be aware that many more parts were made during the 50's , the 50's speedo head used a larger fitting for the cable, Levy's had both types , I had both types of speedos and cable housings , this would also account for a difference in the glass, newer production trucks with higher speeds,

Are you saying.....

Hi Frank

....that they were still producing the early 1940 style civvy instrument cluster in the early 50s????

I have both a 80 mph GMC cluster and quite a few delapidated 100 mph Chevy units...... the Chevy has the small head fitting at the back of the speedo head and the GMC has the larger fitting and the drive cable end piece is also different.... from memory square.

I will probably use the almost mint GMC cluster in my Chev and use the GMC cable you sold me for my cab 11. Rebuilt Chevy clusters are now in the $700 range.

Cheers

Thank you everyone. The Chev versus GMC issue is a good point and so far it makes sense that the Canadian CMP Chev's had 100mph glass and the American GMC's (like CCKW) had 80 mph glass.
