The Netherlands East Indies Army (KNIL) operated a number of Humbers 1946-50. This is said to be a Humber Scoutcar.

Who could tell me more of this vehicle?

These Humber scoutcars have not been used by the RNIA (KNIL) but by the RNA (KL). More specifically by the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th Armoured Car Squadron of the Regiment Huzaren van Boreel. After their arrival in the Netherland-Indies some squadrons modified their Humber scoutcars, f.i. a number of scoucars of the 3rd squdron got a Vickers heavy mg left in the step of their front hull and a number of Humber scoutcars of the 4th squadron have been modified with a ring mount on top of their hull

Unfortunately I (or rather my computer) cannot open the attachment. I am afraid something is wrong with the picture's format.

Stellan,

As I am working on one of these Humber scout cars at the present time, I can tell you a little about them.

Based on the running gear of the Humber 4x4 utility, truck, etc. Not exactly but a number of parts will interchange. Powered by the Humber 4086cc 6 cyl sv engine, mounted in the rear. a very fast vehicle. They were equivalent in role to the Daimler Dingo scout car, although about a ton heavier.

Petrus, I have deleted John's bitmap picture and re-attached the same picture in jpeg-format. You should be able to see it now.

modifications

Hi John, some good foto's you got there!
Especially the ones with modifications are quite interesting. Do you know more about such conversions to armour on Java?
A while back (http://www.mapleleafup.net/forums/sh...&threadid=2532) I posted a picture of a Marmon-Herrington armoured car with a mg mounted next to the driver. Do you know more about these?
Kind regards,
Nuyt

Hi Eric,

Thusfar I have not done much research myself concerning armour in the Nerherlands East and West Indies. But I am interested in that subject and so I enjoy your site very much.

Remembered I had seen a photo of MH AC's that had not been modified with the front MG. According to the caption they were in use on Java with the Pantserautopeloton of the B Division. (Source Het KNIL 1830-1950 by Zwitzer & Heshusius). I have attached a scan.

Greetings,

John Bom
