CMP Tail, Side, Stop, and Convoy lights

Hi Mike,
Is this what you are looking for? If so, PM me with your address and will stick in the post unless you are passing by sometime. Interestingly the longer convoy/rear diff light appears to be just a standard tail/stop/side light with a 2-3/4" long tube pressed onto it. Wish I had known that a few years ago however. I found it impossible to find the right size steel tubing with the correct inner and outer diameters anyway so went for an original. Had a thought it might have been a specially drawn tube for that application or perhaps aircraft tubing as there was a lot of it around in WW2. Cheers, |
Post WW2 the Dutch army copied these sidelights but in brass instead of white metal. They were used on the standard Daf military range of trucks. As a result they are much better than the originals and were quite easy to find a few years ago - not sure about now though !

Well I'll be! Always assumed they were all steel, the front and rear parts. A magnet just proved otherwise to me. Accounts for why the front part rots away a lot faster than the rear part due to electrolysis of dissimilar metals. I always assumed they were turned up on a lathe too but being white metal most likely were die cast then threaded. Always something new to learn about the CMP trucks! Cheers, |
