WS 19 mounting frame for Mk1 carrier
 

Going to fit the imaged rack into my carrier, my understanding is that this bit fixed to the carrier track guard, and a second board attached to the radio then clipped into this rack ?

How did it all go together ? Has anyone any images of this rack fitted, and can anyone part wisdom on how it needs to be fitted.

I have another question for the fitting of the variometer bracket, but will get to that in good time.

I have mounted the variometer bracket etc etc, just need to know what's what with the radio base.

Ps I know the junction box bracket and variometer bracket should be wrinkle finish brown :D

I spun your picture around without having to visit the southern colony.

The base you have is bolted down with 8 bolts to the fender. Then the wireless carrier is attached to this base with 4 of the shock mounts. The ws19 then gets bolted to the wireless carrier.

Here are some pictures of my WS19 setup. I dont have the measurments at hand though for the wireless carrier.

Here's an original mount.

David, that mount is the original style used only with the WS11. They were removed when the WS19 was installed.

Yes, the Wireless No.19 Set mounting instructions indicate the original factory installed Wireless No.11 Set base was to be removed, and returned to stores, less some mounting hardware. However . . . interestingly the No. 11 Set factory base was also reused to form a bracket to hold mortar bombs. Those details are contained in the MK-I* modifications instructions for conversion when mounting the 2" mortar to the engine deck. :thup2:

A fellow restorer living in Alexandria VA has made up several sets of the rubber and steel shock mounts. I used a set on the HAC 19 setm and have another set saved for the Mk1 carrier.

He still has some sets left. He had one set on Ebay not long ago.

I think we talked about these mounts before. There are current production mounts of the same dimensions but wider that can be cut to the proper width. I note on the ebay mounts he states he is not going to make any more.

I have a carrier 25 which is very close to carrier 21 but I would rather not cut it up if I can avoid it.

Anyone got the dimensions for the carrier 21 ?

I have some extruded right angle correct size, so could cut it down to make the ends, and have some spare sheet steel from the carrier base plate so could knock a repro 21 out fairly easy :D

Carrier 25 is nothing like Carrier 21 (or Carrier No.1, which is the same thing before the renumbering).

Anyway, you need Carrier No.2 (or 22), which takes the set only and is much shorter. The Supply Unit fits on top of the set (on its side), and you need a longer "short strap" for that because of the keyhole slot positions and width/height of the supply unit.

Someone posted photographs of a substantially correct setup.

I am aware the psu sits on top of the base unit.

That's a No.25, and is for set and supply unit "side by side" with a very long strap that goes around the whole lot, starting at the side of the supply unit, going under the carrier, up, around and across the top of the set, and locking into a keyhole adapter plate that attaches to the top of the supply unit with four screws. (The plate is required because the keyhole slots on the top of the supply unit point the wrong way in this configuration.)

On which note: Does anyone have the adapter plate for this setup?

You can't really chop or modify it, because it's a completely different design. :nono:

Trade is the only option. :)

Do you have the adapter plate for the supply unit? (Looks a bit like a silhouette of a house, with 4 screw holes in the roof, a crease at gutter level and two keyhole slots.) I need one for my carrier (or measurements to make one up).

Carrier No.2 (or 22) is two U-section channels with steel angle spot-welded to the top at the correct spacing to take the 19 set (only). Two loose pieces of steel angle then fix to the set top (using the 6 tapped holes in the casing), The set fits to the carrier (with suitable padding on the steel angle bits), a strap holds it in place, as usual: fixed plate at left, adjustable at right, under the carrier, the power supply goes on its side (output connector to the left) on the set top - more canvas padding and the shorter strap under the steel angle pieces - lay the strap down before screwing them on, and the dog-bone links the supply unit to the set. Simples!

Carrier No.2 is probably unpainted (tin-plated steel), the later ones (22) were painted green (or, probably brown) at the factory.

Four shock absorbers mount the carrier to the vehicle in the usual way.

I don't think I have the adaptor housing that you describe, so perhaps something else on the fabrication list.

The 19set and psu etc are still in Canada at the moment.

Never thought for one moment the installation would be this involved :D

The mk2 unit I have purchased still works or worked....has not been powered up for a long time. I have a pal who knows about the sets and will slowly power it up for me.

I want to use the A set (which I will get licensed for) and the intercom.

Would anyone be willing to measure a 22 carrier frame for me ? I can make one rather than ruin what I have :)
