Civillianised C15A in Sydney Museum

This is at the Tempe Bus and Truck Museum.

Title: "Officially known as a Canadian Military Pattern Chevrolet C15_ 4 x 4 model 8444 with a number 13 cab. "

"This vehicle was purchased on 30 May, 1946 by the Department of Road Transport and Tramways (D.R.T. & T.) from the Commonwealth Disposal Commission. It was one of a number of wartime vehicles purchased after the war ended. The truck was used as a breakdown vehicle at the Randwick tramway workshops mains section and later at the Ritchie Street trolley bus depot.

With the reduced numbers of trams operating and the closing of the Trolley Bus System, the vehicle was transferred to the Chullora bus workshops in March 1960._ Registered as CT-070, it was used for towing disabled buses from various depots to the Chullora workshops for overhaul. The truck was also used a general service vehicle.

When the workshops complex was closed in October 1989, the vehicle was donated by the State Transit Authority to the Museum. The Authority always maintained the 'Blitz' in excellent condition and it became a welcome addition to the Museum's collection._ "

Just like a CMP to out live three occupations before retiring to a museum and still be in good condition.

I think this truck may have once appeared in an early edition of Wheels and Tracks - I'll have a look at the old issues.
The mudguards (fenders) are distinctive.

Another civilianised Blitz
 

This C60S is one of several modified by the Metropolitan Transport Trust (MTT) in Perth, Western Australia after WW2. Note the fixed windscreens and the larger rubber bumpers. It was also fitted with dual rear wheels.

This truck was used as a breakdown vehicle for the MTT's electric trolley bus fleet. Most of it's work came when the trolley bus drivers forgot that they had to always follow the overhead wires. When that happened the Blitz was sent out to push or tow them back under the wires.

This tuck is still resting quietly on the back of a rubbish tip on a sheep station about 100km east of Kalgoorlie, WA. One day I'll go collect it.

Was this truck originally a tipper? I noticed that it has the correct Army hub spacer on the front wheels to use dual type rims on the front axle.

Hi Tony, I'm not sure of that. It doesn't have a PTO but I didn't have a close look for any other signs that it may have been a tipper once. I'll be back there later this year and will have another look or even maybe recover it if I can get a truck to bring it out on.
