Japan's Radio War On Australia

I have a copy of this book coming, published in 1968 , it should be interesting .

The Nips had powerful SW stations, broadcasting their brand of propaganda around the globe .

The book was written by a academic , it's a little heavy to read in places but she really did the research very well.

The broadcasts were listened to by a special group in Melbourne and detailed transcripts were recorded . Any information of use to the Allies was noted.

The Japs had five stations, Batavia, Saigon , Tokyo , Shanghai and Singapore

Some POW's were used to write and narrate some of the broadcasts, one example, a Major Cousens , Australian, was put on trial in Sydney after the war . He was a wireless technician before the war . Also, the Germans were involved in the Shanghia station .

The Japs had difficulty finding English speaking announcers, they didn't like using the people that had grown up in the USA . They broadcast in English, Dutch and German and Italian . Some of the announcers were so bad , the script was almost impossible to understand.

Technical breakdowns were frequent , with the stations going off air at any time.
