1940 Holden built Chevrolet Ute
 

About to kick off this little project, 1940-41? Chevrolet Pullman Ute, GMH built. Just wondering if anyone would know anything about its identity given the limited info on the compliance plates attached.

I have no idea what the colour code is but the old girl has nothing but green on it. It has small holes in the top of the body where wood boards for seats once sat. Not a lot more to tell at this stage.

A1 = January 1941

It is a very early example of the 41 ute, it has the normal civilian style cab with the split window , like a 39 or 40 model . Later on they changed the cabs to a flat backed square style cab , I think they may have used sedan bodies and chopped then into utes . Actually, it looks like a 1940 model , 1484 of them assembled . Hard to say , the military did use these utes . It could have been purchased new by a farmer, being a essential user, he was allowed to keep it .The colour code BGS doesn't appear in the Holden book. I've seen the 1941 army Chevy vehicles with the "Khaki" colour stamped onto that plate

Could the colour code BGS be a variant of "Bronze Green" Not sure what the S could mean??? My 1940 Holden Chevrolet just had Khaki on it so it was much easier to interpret.

I checked some old Holden clubs and they changed over from letters to numbers - maybe when GM took them over? So I drew a blank there.

The BGS stands for Bergers and what I though was a B in PLGBN is an R as PLGRN and is pale green. At least that part of the problem is solved.
