Thanks for posting. I had never seen a Sentinel with anything other than Grant tracks. The one in the film is on British style all steel dry pin track, very similar to Cromwell but with twin guide horns to suit the single roadwheels. This is the same idea as Canadian CDP track but definately a different design. As with CDP track the sprockets are made to suit too.

Two different AC1 tanks (at least). The first - one of the 'E' series prototypes - has the original flat roof hatch, the second has the production caste cupola.

Scout cars are the 'Dingo', and the larger wheeled vehicles are 'Rover' light armoured cars. LP2 or 2A carriers, which the AWM persists in calling 'Bren gun carriers', are Australian Machine Gun Carriers.

Great piece of footage - even an aircraft taking off in the background from the old FB 'drome at GAF/CAC.

Looking at the angle of climb I'd say it's likely a Boomerang or Wirraway from the CAC factory, the Beaufort wasn't quite as nippy.

Imagine the sound of all those flatheads and whining gears in the massed scenes with carriers, Dingoes and Rovers! Be fun to have the time to add sound effects to the clip.

I read an article somewhere about the Australian Sentinal Tank series some years ago. Quite an impressive machine. One piece cast hull, as I recall.

Anyone know if the ACIII with the twin 25-pdr turret, or the 17-pdr ACIV survived anywhere?

Both the twin 25-pdr and 17-pdr were assembled onto existing 'E' series hulls - the three tanks the AFV Workshops used for experimentation.

The prototype AC3, serial 8066, with (single) 25pdr is held in storage at the AWM in Canberra, and is visible at the storage facility open day(s) each year.

The AC4 never actually existed beyond the experimental 17-pdr mounting on an E series hull.

Occasionally you'll find sound track on these films, albeit interrupted usually. This one has some nice tank and Harley sound and even features Don R jumps through burning hoop!
