Correct markings for Stuart tank?
 

Correct markings for Stuart Mk.VI, Reconnaissance Troop, HQ Squadron, 2nd Armoured Reg., LDSH (RC) 5th Canadian Armoured Division, ETO WW2?

Not sure... But... I have an original ww2 maple leaf vehicle transfer which I intend getting copied... Same colour.

I was just trying to figure out where the markings go on the rear of the tank, with all the tool stowage and spare track link storage I don't really see where the Commenwealth markings go. On US tanks the identification seems to be stenciled underneath the exhaust deflector, but there is no room there for commonwealth markings. Lots of room on the front of the tank.

Thanks Hanno, been a long time since I had been to that site, very helpful. The Stuart actually served with the US army in WW2, US markings were visible still near the towing pintle, I will dig out the photos pre-sandblasting

The black square with the 40 is only for Division HQ, so you want the red square with the 51 on the right side back and front and the Divisional sign on the left, and the red diamond on the sides of the turret.

That was also very helpful, I have never seen that first photo passing the reviewing stand, any idea where that was and what reg # of the first tank in line is? I can't make it out.

The only unanswered question is, with the amount of stowage on the rear of the M5A1....where do the symbols go on the rear? Does anyone have a rear view of an M5A1 in Canadian service?

How do you figure out the correct CT (census) or WD numbers for a Stuart in Canadian service?

Don't think it is possible, think they were allocated to the vehicles in turn, but not based on the serial number.

If you're lucky and have the number still painted on your vehicle (as was the case on my Firefly), then great, but if not, then you are relying on a record appearing somewhere which ties the chassis number to the Census number.

At the request of a good friend the Stuart has been marked as a Recce tank of the Southern Alberta Light Horse...thanks for all that helped with information and suggestions
