Found a Box for My F60L

Last Friday on the way home, I went the "other" way down the road from work to avoid the traffic caused by local bridge repairs. As I drove past the auto wrecker 2 blocks down, some strange shadows caught my eye on one of the older trucks they had pulled into the processing area.
What I saw were the shadows from the tarp tie down hooks of a CMP Box!!
The truck was partially hidden behind some other vehicles that prevented positive identification from the road, so I went back the next morning for a better look. The 60L CMP box is mounted on a 1954 Fargo chassis, and has been "farmer welded" to a hoisting frame. The inner fenders have been cut out, and the tailgate is gone, but the rest looks quite salvageable. The yard owner informed me that the truck was Already Sold in a package deal to another wrecker, but he would talk to him about it.
Today I was informed that the buyer wanted the cab and chassis, but the box was available for $200. The wrecker will bring the whole unit over to my shop next week so we can cut the "farmer welds" that haven't broken yet ( not many...), and lift the box off with the overhead cranes at the shop.
This should fit well on the ex-firetruck I got from the top of the "scrap cutting pile" in Shaunavon a few years ago.

As a side note, I "donated" the best F60L I had back to the small town who had used it for a firetruck for many years. I had it running when they came for the unofficial donation ceremony, and they hope to have it restored to its original "Fire Truck" status by CANADA's 150th anniversary next year. Read about it here: http://www.prairiepost.com/news/sw-s...storation.html ( There are numerous CMP's for restoration, but ONLY 1 Vanguard Fire Truck. Since it had not changed very much since they retired it, letting them have it back for their town museum seemed like a more noble cause...)

Lovely find Joe....and a good price too.
So, is that last picture showing your truck that will be fitted with this GS body? Or is that the one you donated ? Lovely straight 11 cab on the back, by the looks of it!

Yes, the GS body will be going on that chassis. It was used as a fire truck in Admiral SK., and eventually ended up in a scrapyard in Shaunavon SK, where it sat for many years. The wheels had been removed, and used to fit surplus Run Flat tires onto one of their scrap handling BobCats. I am pretty sure Rob Love bought the convoy lights off of it years ago from the scrap dealer. in 2011 I got a call from a friend who was working in that area to inform me that the truck had been moved from its long time resting spot to the top of the scrap "processing" pile. I purchased it that weekend. Luckily I had some extra wheels and tires around to get it so I could roll it around. They get a whole lot bigger when you put them back up on wheels!

The donated truck still had most of it's fire apparatus as per the attached photo.

Does anyone have measurements or drawings for a 60CWT tailgate to fit this GS box? I would also like photos/dimensions for what the fender panels inside the box are supposed to look like. It would be easy to laser cut and bend these parts up at work if I have something for reference.

The 11cab came from one of the local scrap yards. It was hauled in last fall along with some WWII aircraft parts. The guys at that yard will often phone me when something interesting shows up. The cab is a GM Model 84-20 with serial # 0842002703. I think that makes it an 8CWT? The missing roof is typical of the sort of "wind damage" that occurs around here.

Joe, lovely to read a bit of history on both 3 Tonners and great that one will soon get it's GS body back!
I am sure someone can help you with the info you need on the missing parts of the GS body.

Indeed....a C8 cab. I should have noticed the hole for the speaking tube in the cab rear wall! Your serial number is only 53 away from my C8!
Do you have the engine number as well? There is a list of C8 chassis numbers (and engine numbers when known) on the forum somewhere, started by the late David Hayward.

regards,
Alex

I can't say if that was me or not. Pickin in Saskatchewan was a bit of an orgy back then....so many trucks everywhere. But I had a look on the map and I am not sure I was ever in Shaunavon. Then again maybe I was......

The same scrap man also had a couple of Antar's at one time. I vaguely remember that they may have been the reason for the visit to Shaunavon??

I remember the mighty Antars, but can't remember the reason we were there. Had something to do with CMP recovery for the museum no doubt.
