Anyone familar with this 17 pdr. in BC at a paintball facility?

A google search shows Panther Paintball has this gun along with military vehicles including some heavy and light armour. I found another shot of the 17 pounder on this page https://www.google.ca/maps/uv?hl=en&...Q5TaHgApFwCLIB

Nothing to do with the paintball site, but to do with 17 pounders and how the nomenclature might be (mis)interpreted. My wife's father was an avid fisherman (had a veteran's restricted commercial license as a WW II RCN veteran). Several years ago, as we drove past a Legion that had a 17 pounder on display, I commented "look at the 17 pounder." She didn't see the gun as she was looking for a fish. True. As the gunner's son, I only thought about "6 pdr", "17pdr" and "25pdr" pertaining to guns. :) |
A review of the paintball sites pictures Rob reveal a Mk 2/3 Ferret some kind of 8 X 8 armour some eastern block 6 X 6 truck.

And next to the ferret is the external fuel tank of a M113A2.

17pdr belongs to the Township of Surrey, was on loan to CMEC before they were evicted from CFB Chilliwack, now this gun and the M113 APC, which still belongs to DND, have been placed at this paintball park,

More shit talk
CMEC is an extremely active organization. We are out in the community on almost every weekend somewhere in the lower mainland. and still seeking a permanent home. Some of our members have dealt with you and its true we wouldn't again. But we don't go around making snide remarks about you. Nobody is forgetting anything at CMEC.

17 pounder etc and CMEC
Hello group.
In a continuing effort to clear the air I would like to add to this thread. As stated CMEC ( Canadian Military Education Centre) is still alive and trying to find a new location. The items mentioned aren't stashed at the paintball field as much as being stored. We couldn't find free storage and Panther Paintball was good enough to lend us some room. The vehicles aren't used as part of the paintball activities except for photo ops like the picture in this thread. There is hope that the funds can be raised to perhaps build a new facility. A lofty goal but there is some new blood in CMEC striving to meet this goal. The 17 pounder had been stored in a cemetery for many years and was in poor shape. An agreement was worked out between the Legion that at one time had her on display, the Township of Surrey and CMEC to rescue her from the cemetery, clean her up and be readily available for special functions when called upon by the Legion or township. It was a lot of work by the volunteers to make her safe to be towed to these events. She still needs a muzzle brake, if anyone has one they could part with. I will try to get a picture posted here on MLU of the dedication plaque on the gun that was paid for and installed by CMEC. Thank you Dan Jahn ( CMEC member ) |
Thank you
Thank you DanJahn for a clear and straightforward explanation
of what your group does and how eager they are to persue their historical and re-enactment activity. Peter S |
