C60X 15000lb winch details needed
 

I am doing a model of the #4 (Aust) workshop/machinery truck built on the C60X chassis. Now Barts book says that these were fitted with the 15000lb winch behind the cab and I am after some close up pics of this winch and maybe the measurements of it if Possible.

Also where was this winch cable hooked up to? I know the gantry had a chain block and tackle so was this similar to the GT winches?

The 'dog boxes behind the cab and in front of the main rear body. What were these used for? I know one would be the spare wheel carrier but the others, including the two small ones sitting on top?

Any help would be appreciated

The winch may not have been driven by the transfer case as with the 4x4 s because of the two tail shafts coming out of the rear of the transfer case on the C60X .
The winch may have been driven from the gearbox on the PTO drive .

I have Rick's details on my other computer...
You could also contact John Belfield who has a complete one as well as a couple of bodies.
As far as I know it was a Gar Wood winch and it must have been driven from the gearbox. At 15000 pounds it was more than twice as powerful as the standard winch.
On the rear corners of the body are a couple of pulleys for side winching, but I don't have pictures of the rear fairleads which may have been the same as the standard CMP ones.

This pic looks like it was taken in Australia - if so it could be the first imported as it has a Canadian built cab.

Looks like the winch sat behind the spare wheel carrier. I'll see what else I can find..

The winch must have been driven off the gearbox PTO as Jim suggested, there is no spare outlets on the Transfer Case.
Cliff, some more pics of this truck coming to you, but no winch fitted, I'm sorry.

thanks Tony. I appreciate your help. In a way if the winch is hidden by the dog boxes behind the cab I may get away with just putting the cable and pullys in as the model will be fitted to a base and no one will be able to see the underneath. A cheats way of doing it but! Oh well if needs must:)

Have taken some pic's of a C60X with winch behind the cab , not sure if this was original or not .
The main difference is that the transfer case is set further back , behind the winch , presumeable so it does not interfere with the winch drive from the gearbox..
If you look at the tailshaft angles of the picture put in by Kieth W this truck could have the transfer case behind the winch , maybe it was a modification to suit the breakdown role .

to my earlier post - I think it was a Servex not Gar Wood winch.
I'll see whether I have a pic.

I thought I had a pic - although it's out of a vehicle.
These were used in the earlier Marmon-Herrington 6X6 workshop vehicles too.
