Care to teach an old horse a new trick???

Hi Rob

Now that you have bought the funny looking can..... can you educate me as to its significance???? I have a couple in the barn...... looks like old gas/kerosene can used on old farmstead.

Were they used early in the service????

Allies including Canadians had poison gas at or near the front to respond in kind if the Germans resorted to using it themselves. Chemical detection units were always near the front. An allied ship full of chemical weapons was bombed in an Italian port and thousands of civilians died from the gas.

Similar stories with the Australians, following frightening reports of Japanese chemical weapon use in China.

However, the only Australian casualties from Chemical weapons in WW2 were "own goals" within Australia during training, transport and storage.
