Tow hook for Mk2 carrier
A good friend supplied me with a tow hook as a thank you for doing some running about for him. I need to strip it down as it is seized solid. I have managed to drill out the remains of a split pin, and extract a rotten grease nipple however I am struggling to extract the pin ? Am I missing something ? Before I get the hot spanners out I just wanted to check :D
EDIT: Cannot upload images from my apple device GNRRRR please see link to images https://imgur.com/a/K5Azy |
Scrap that, I figured it out.
Cheers anyway |
Bigger wrench?

Hot spanners. The pin which appeared to have a flange on one end was infact a red herring ! Some heat on the lugs and a press saw it realeased from its rusty tomb. I established it was merely a straight pin press fitted into the lugs, at which point the split pin retains it, just need a cleanup and a new spring and we are good to go now :D

Mine appears to have a 'drive pin' rather than a split pin? Ron

Interesting. I presumed split pin only as the remains appeared to be in two halves. I think I may be machining up a drive pin !
Does anyone have any details on the spring ? Length etc ? What was left of mine I could not get any accurate data. |
Tow Hook
I have had a lot to do with rust and the best thing that I have ever used is Acetone and Automatic oil 50-50 and it works fast
