Fuel Tank C60L Information

Hi All
Here are photos of outside and inside of one of the gas tanks off my 1941 Pattern 12 C60L. I'm posting these in response to a question by Jacques Reed in his tread concerning removing a dent from his tank. http://www.mapleleafup.net/forums/sh...835#post245835 Posting this as a separate thread so the MLU search engine can find it by topic head easier. My tank had been open to the elements for many years before I got the truck and had visible nesting material in the tank no smell of fuel and rust holes. Hence my decision to open the tank up to see how it was built. The cutting was done with a plasma torch the only smoke or fire was from the nesting material catching fire and smoldering. The measurements are those I felt necessary to reproduce the tank. If you don't see a measurement that you need just ask. Not knowing how to work around the limit on photos here is the third installment
If you are look for a source for the filler neck, the through side of the cab filler neck on 1948 vintage Ford F Series trucks with the behind the seat gas tank are a very close match. Hope these photos are of help Cheers Phil Attachment 96452 Attachment 96453 Attachment 96454 Attachment 96455 Attachment 96456 |
Unnessary Word of Caution
Hi All
Please anyone considering repair of fuel tank, remember the risk of fire or explosion. The tank I recently opened with plasma torch was known to have been open (no cap) to the elements for many years. Had there been any hint of fuel, probably would have filled the tank with water while cutting. I know that people who have responded to this thread are well aware of the risks, I'm more concerned with people doing a web search on fuel tank repair not being aware of the hazards. Cheers Phil |
