Hi, Have got another Question. I have this M3 Data plate we are using on a Stuart Tank and we were wondering what the D N H stands for? any ideas out there? I do not think it is drive , neutral, high as it is not an auto! Thanks Andrew.

I think it's the initials of the inspector.
|
Ordnance inspectors
These initials are from Col. D.N. Hauseman, Ordnance chief from Philadelphia Ordnance district from August 1942 to December 1943.

Thanks Adrian and Marco, that solves a little mystery, Andrew.

While we're at it, here are some more: M3 Medium, 1942, Ordnance acceptance marking "RZC": Attachment 97670 Ram II, 1943, Ordnance acceptance marking "BOH": Attachment 97671 M4A3(105)W, 1945, Ordnance acceptance marking "ABQ": Attachment 97669 So who were the counterparts of Col. D.N. Hauseman? I guess it is a study on its own.... Thanks, Hanno |
And then you can get into firearm acceptance marks (cartouche)

Hello Hanno,
RZC is Col. R.Z. Crane, Ordnance chief of the Detroit district from June 1938 to June 1942. He was succeded by "ABQ" Brig. Gen. A.B. Quinton Jr. who fulfilled the job from June 1942 throughout the rest of the war. For that reason ABQ is quite common found on armored vehicle dataplates. I have a note somewhere on "BOH" which i can't find now. It is on Grizzly dataplates also. Marco |

Had a great find the other day, this original Drive / Neutral and High (DNH) plate turned up the other day from a random auction, after at least 40 years missing from the Tank that just happens to be sitting in my wkshop! Exact same serial number, cheers Andrew.
