Carc

Hello everyone.

Do any of you know what the standard was for armoured vehicles with CARC during the cold war?

I know they were painted internally with it, but was that the case externally?

I have read somewhere (wish I could remember where) that any touch up was to be done with enamel paint. Seem to think this was in reference to the exterior where the CARC was damaged. Doing so however would negate the purpose of having CARC as enamel (especially drab) would absorb any chemical agents.

Thanks
Doug

The complete vehicles were painted with CARC.

Touch-ups by brush were with CARC, but had to be kept to a minimum as the CARC would crack if too thick.

The newest CARC is water based. Apparently less health risks than the old stuff, but you never really are sure which was applied to the vehicle you are workign on.
