I believe this is an Australian 'C-47' conversion.
Experts will tell me what model CMP is underneath  |
Ahhh. The original Airstream! :)

Based on the shape of the tyres, 8cwt.
Front hubs and stance say 4x2, also consistent with 8cwt. Arch bar for the cab structure says it was originally cab 11 or 12. |
Stuart, what a great pic, thanks for sharing!
I concur with Grant, but oh my - what a load they put on that poor 8-cwt. I hope it was a Ford, a Chev wouldn't have had the grunt to move the combo... :) H. |

I was on car rally across Australia about 26 years ago and the Royal Australian Navy entered a Maple Leaf truck with the fuselage of a C-47 on it. They struggled across the Outback and desert and still made it in to the overnight stops. |

That is amazing ! How about doing one based on a Concord ?

Looks like a C8, based on the inner fender panels and the mark on the front bumper where the brush bar used to attach.
No marker lights and/or remains of the wiring strip......so maybe cab 11...or early cab 12? Quote:

At least the driver looks to have more space than the average cab 11. Wouldn't they have had to raise the seat, steering, pedals etc for the driver to be high enough to see out the windows?

Back in 1942, the crazy Brits went one better:
http://www.todayifoundout.com/index....h-flying-jeep/ Anyone fancy building and flying one of these 'Fleeps'? There's a replica at the Museum of Army Flying, but its only a static display...I think. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fi_5gc5vWqw Owen. |
A hotted up Blitz (with afterburner)
At Corowa a few years ago a fellow turned up with a Blitz (what started life as a Blitz anyway) that had a jet engine mounted on the back. What made a demonstration look more impressive was a number of fuel nozzles in the exhaust that when activated gave a thirty foot flame out the back. He lit it up just outside the caravan park one evening and the constabulary were not at all amused.
Someone will have photos. David |
Well aren't those interesting looking rigs! For function or for show?
Here's a novel idea to get more out of our current equipment, put a CF-18 onto an MLVW chassis. It's a match made in heaven! |
