A movie telling the story of the Leonski murders was filmed in Melbourne in the mid 80s. The title is 'Death of a soldier' and it starred James Coburn. A number of VMVC members supplied vehicles for the various shoots including myself, Alf Brooks, Bernie Brooks and Keith Gardener. James Coburn struck me as a nice guy with no pretensions. Strangely enough Bernie lived in Gatehouse street not far from where one of the murders was committed.
The GMC in the photo is in fact a Chev 1-1/2 ton 4x4, or 'Yankee Joe' as they are commonly known in Australia. David |

I recall the filming of the movie . My Jeep was going to be the main Jeep with James Coburn as the passenger, I had to pull out at the last minute, the guy arranging the props was not impressed with me LOL. I passed the job onto VMVC member Bill Szabo and his Jeep . Bill mentioned to me later , his impression was James Coburn was a nice guy.
