Headlight identification

Hi,

I got this lens with my HUP and am wondering what type and what its use is. Is it missing the blackout cover, or is it some other type?

Cheers!

David Herbert 15-04-20 15:49

Marty,
I think that this is a blackout lamp that used to have a slit with a hood in the top half but a lift up semi-circular cover covering the bottom half for running under non blackout conditions.

That makes sense. So this one is missing the blackout cover.
This also means that I have two different types of blackout lenses/covers. I also have the one with only the slit in the top half.
Thanks!

The glass lens is the remains of the late WW2 blackout shield that allowed for both blackout and headlight use with a rotating half-circle. Very useful for modern use. The other shield is the standard early shield. I have both styles available.

Based on your photo, Brian, the lens in Marty’s truck needs to be rotated 180 degrees to get the headlamp portion to the bottom of the assembly and the more diffuse blackout portion to the top.

David: Yes the glass on Marty's truck is mounted upside-down.

Thank you all for your help! The blackout lights are not in the truck right now, but it is nice to know what I have.

Some light entertainment...........

Some of the black out lights that I have opened had the bottom half of the reflector painted in flat black paint....... so only the top half actually reflected from the top to the lens opening and partially directed downward and short in front of the truck. The external eye brow further restricted stray light from going up to the sky.

Cheers

This headlight surfaced when a C15A was recovered by Morten Grorud in Norway recently.

Can anyone ID it? It was suggested this is a Ford light.

This looks like a lens for the late style dual purpose blackout/driving light.
The blackout shield that's supposed to be on there has a rotatable piece to block light if blackout driving is required.

Thanks Marty. So the light still has part of a blackout shield attached? The broad rim is what confused me.

It does look like that is the case. I do not own the shield itself, so I don't know how many parts it has, and how many parts are missing on mine and the one pictured in your first post.

The Headlamps on my FGT

Interesting! So it looks like that the outer ring could be swapped for the blackout shield instead of adding the shield on top.

Headlamp

Thanks Mariano, that solves the riddle!

I am see "broad rim" nr. 13061 which secures the glass nr. 13063 sits under the bezel nr. 33003-S. Rim nr. 13061 can be swapped out for blackout hood nr. 13063.
Two assemblies (C49Q-13060 and -13002) were supplied to enable an easy swap in the field.

It is difficult to export from Argentina.
The owner wants to charge for each piece the same price that he sees that is charged in Europe.
High shipping costs from Argentina
Customs difficulties to export this type of material.

m606paz 29-10-21 21:30

But if they pay me to take it, I will only charge them for the trip and the stay to Normandy Beaches! :D
