COMMISSIONED IN
U.S. ARMY

Former Manager of
Automotive Service
Co. in Melbourne

Members of the motor trade will
be interested to learn that Mr. Harry
A. Cavanaugh, general manager of
National Automotive Service Company
(the parts and accessories division of
General-Motors Holden's Limited,
Melbourne) has been commissioned as
Lieutenant-Colonel in the United
States Armed Forces in Australia.
The . U.S.A.F.I.A. certainly have
many tremendous problems in organ
izing their facilities in this country
which is so far away from their
home base. Probably the most diffi
cult is that of the establishment and
control of motor transportation. In
this respect they are to be congratula
ted in obtaining' the services of Mr.
Cavanaugh whose years of experience
in the procurement, control, stor
age, issue and supply of motor parts
in this country will be valuable to
them.
Lieut.Colonel Cavanaugh is desig
nated as Acting Chief of the Motor
Supply Parts and Maintenance Di
vision, which in addition to control
ling parts supplies, is also charged
with the responsibility of the main
tenance of motor vehicles and equip
ment involving the operation of com
mercial shops and equipment.

Mr. Harry A. Cavanaugh

I am assuming that Mr. Harry A. Cavanaugh was an Australian citizen. In that case how did he receive a commission in the US army ?

I was thinking the opposite, that he was likely American and brought over to provide some US managerial skills to GM's newest purchases; Holden and Nasco.
