13 cab windshield question
2 Attachment(s)
Regarding the front outer windshield posts on 13 cab CMP Chevs (not sure about Fords), it seems the left and right sheet metal skin with the 'press the dot' fasteners for the side curtain canvas are different. The left is rectangular and the side surface is flat, whereas the right often has a gentle bulge. So my question is, should the bulge be there, and if so, why? Or is it not supposed to be there and for some reason the rust bulge (because what else could it be) only affects the one side because of some flaw perhaps?
I need to know as replacing these post skins is on by to-do list. Here's what I mean. This is a little bump but some are quite rounded. |
Mine were full of sand
Hi Bruce
The window post you are talking about on 1942 Pattern 13 C60S were full and I mean full of sand, they were also rusted and bulged like you described. Only possible explanation for being full of sand I could thing of was that the truck had been swamped on a beach at some point. The truck had been heavily water proofed with cosmaleane (spelling). CMP windscreen frame

I cannot vouch for Chev windscreen frames but my Ford ones are flat on both sides. Or actually flat on outside but rounded on inside as shown. They do bulge when moisture collects under the spot welded seams causing severe rust which causes the bulge as shown in the attached example. It is the one I relegated to a roof holder. Cheers, |
