What were they suspicious of? The mother company Philips in the Netherlands being under German control after 10 May 1940?

Sympathisers
The police suspected the Philips factory , Australia , was employing Dutch nationals who were German sympathisers . Some Philips workers claimed the factory output was hampered by poor management , slowing down wartime essential production ,the finger was pointed at the top brass in the factory who were Dutch . It's all rather silly stuff. Probably, it was a personality clash , boss versus lower ranked staff.
The police conducted surveillance of the factory and actually raided homes of employees. You can read the tapped phone call transcripts in the file. Interestingly, the file refers to Philips making transmitters for the US army in Australia. |
