Morris CS8 water truck

The Alexander Turnbull Library in NZ hosts great pics like this one that you can zoom in to a high resolution. Lets hope the link works OK .

I have one of these 200 gallon tanks (minus the filters and accessories), same as pictured . And the same type of CS8 truck.

The tank was made by Thompson Bros. http://www.blackcountrymemories.uk/thompbros00.htm

Hi Mike, interesting to see the page on the Thompson Bros. A little while ago a number of photos "from the Thompson Brothers archive" turned up on FB, see one here: http://www.mapleleafup.net/forums/sh...d.php?p=288926. AFAIK the Commer water tank truck was not taken into production.

Thanks for that link, I had not seen the Commer pic with the 200 gallon tank. Looks like it was a 'test' fit-up that didn't go ahead into production.

For those who may have missed this. A film depicting the method and equipment.

https://www.awm.gov.au/collection/C189881

The original filters seen in the film are very scarce now as most were thrown away. Some restorers have made up repro filters and fittings.....

Richard Moyes in the UK recently finished his MWC truck , he has amazing fabrication skills and he hand made just about everything for the truck. His work can be seen here.

An example of Richard's work, he cast the filter lids himself. All the fittings were fabricated as well.

Some pics of the Morris CS8 water tank.

Begs the question: What became of the rest of the truck ?

And: How did this vehicle get to Australia? Maybe "refugee cargo"

This tank did not come off one of the Bedford MWC trucks that are listed in the AWM 126 books, which are incorrectly listed as 30 cwt OX models.

The water filter material/powder they refer to in the film is known as kieselguhr https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diatomaceous_earth

Nice.....................

Great pics... not seen these.

The late CS8/C4 with the tubular tilt frame may be a prototype decontamination sprayer.

I see a few WW2 Bedford OY trucks converted into tankers. https://www.macearchive.org/films/me...nd-midday-rush

A pic from the NZ military vehicle F/B page.

Could be 1960s era.

The truck needed a drink and nobody was stopping it.
