Wireless set is either a Ack or Charlie set...... a obsolete set still in use by the looks of it , late 1930s.

Utes in the Middle EAst

Looks like a Morris C8 Portee ? A number of these (around 30) are found in the AWM 126 books (some were disposed to Lanes Motors Melbourne, the Morris dealers). A few survivors have been found here in Aust. but usually the Portee body is missing. Used to be one in Kilmore wreckers sitting upside down , the whole yard was scrapped. A friend had two of these but he decided to pass them onto somebody else, a NOS engine was found at Hughes yard, Coburg. The scene could be a Vichy French airfield in Syria ? Seems such a strange scenario, but Australians were fighting Vichy French troops in Syria.

E.g. when I enter 8385-AMWA49031 or parts thereof in the search engine I get no hits. Do you know how to fix this? Thanks in advance, |

Great photos. The Chevrolet truck, ARN AIF L-16041 and my Chev ARN AIF L-16070 both went to the Middle East on 6th October 1941 on the ship Tricolor, spelt the Australian way Tricolour in the AWM books.
The Tricolor spelling was a problem when I searched the WW2 sailing log of the ship. The log also showed that the ship sailed a couple of days later than the 6th. Maybe the 6th was when it was loaded. Both trucks returned to Australia and were sold to General Motors Holden when disposed of . Even though my truck is fairly complete it is nice to have a good reference photo of the camo and it looks like I also have the correct canopy frame accumulated from somewhere. If I ever get it restored and display it, I will be able to do a correct lather up for a shave. |
Shipping Data
Unfortunately there are numerous discrepancies between sources for shipping. This was an independent running voyage, ie not in convoy. Great way to get picked off by a surface raider.

This one is a Ford ute with the separate cab. Quite a few of the pics show the vehicles with the 9th Div. sign and a unit number. C11ADF I think https://collectionswa.net.au/items/9...6-ab1088d97a0a Ford V4061 in Darwin. Chevy utes https://collectionswa.net.au/items/2...2-f592071e55dc |

Ford ute body turned upside down makes the ideal table.
Think the three trucks lined up are GMC..... better engine than the Chev 216. Mushroom collecting with the Chev. staff car. |
