"New" CMP Fuel Tanks???
 

After a bit of searching around my yard, I have come to the conclusion that out of 6 CMPs, I do not have Any serviceable fuel tanks. This, and my present dislike of how our "environmentally friendly" fuels seem to destroy unlined steel tanks, have me thinking of building a pair of reproduction tanks out of Stainless Steel. Before I embark upon this, it seems prudent to ask if there Is a supplier who already builds such a thing? Thanks.

I don't know of a commercial maker of reproduction fuel tanks. There are a few people who have made their own. One example is Gordon Yeo's C8 project http://www.mapleleafup.net/forums/sh...highlight=tank

Jordan Baker is rebuilding the fuel tank in his Otter. If your problem is pinholes, it is possible to solder the holes (been there). You aren't the first to have faced this - see http://www.mapleleafup.net/forums/sh...ight=fuel+tank

Check out tamksinc.com. they have several off the shelf tanks that could do the trick. I believe they also sell necks as well.
Regarding the steel tanks rusting, what I have done is treat my new tanks like they are going to rust. I clean them with strong detergent followed by phosphoric acid, then line them. I used por15 in the past, but found it to come loose or break up after a few years. I now use bill Hirsch tank sealer (2 coats) and am happy with the results.
