CMPs up for auction in Prince Albert Saskatchewan

3 Attachment(s)
Long time collector Mickey Zwacks collection is going for auction on the 19th of October due to health issues. I have known Mickey for over 30 years, and he has been collecting at least 40 years. The auction listing is here: https://bid.schmalzauctions.com/Satu...pment_as102241

The CMPs start around lot 617. There are some lots mixed with commercial stuff, and some of what I saw at his place does not seem to have made it into the auction, and may have gone for scrap. Very little of the stuff is properly identified. The trucks are typical of Saskatchewan vehicles in that they are fairly rust free.

There are also M-series parts, a smattering of Iltis, and various militaria items. Prince Albert is a little over an hours drive North of Saskatoon, so off the beaten path. I suspect the prices may reflect that.

Lots to pick from

Hi Rob,

I wish Mr Zwacks a succesful auction and the best of health. The location is off the beaten path for sure! It would make one hell of a road trip, though. Buy the lot, sort it all out there, dismantle and pack it all tightly in a container(s), and scrap the remains. If they were jeeps, one might just about cover the cost. Seeing the market for CMPs, however, I fear many of these lots will end up being scrapped. Here's hoping someone "local" will pick up the best ones!

Here are some direct links to the CMP lots that I could find. Do note the:

Rob,

Thanks for posting the heads up! Interesting stuff, especially the 8cwt body; it seems quite solid and still has some of the Wireless fittings that have long gone on mine.

If anyone on the forum is planning to view the lots in person......and willing to take some pictures.... I would be very interested in some pictures and maybe a measurement or two of the 8cwt body.

It's a Chev. It would be interesting to see if it still has the data plate, as it seems it might be around the same build period as my C8....cab vents, cab 11, early small box with lights on the right rear only.
It also has the rare speaking-tube panel still fitted to the rear of the cab, and that rare trim piece, for the edge of the roof, casually draped over the nose!

Wireless box

Interesting seeing the steel box for the mounting of the wireless set in that 8cwt 1A2 body. The line illustrations from the DND 8 cwt body publication show that a wooden table was fitted for the wireless set, similar to the British 8cwt FFW bodies. Just to the rear end of the wireless steel box is the long bracket for the fitting of three canvas 'signals satchels' quite a rare thing to see the bracket still there. The late David Pope rescued a few of these 8 cwt bodies - I hope they were saved by somebody and didn't go to scrap.

#694: 8-cwt canopy frame? Doesn't appear to be from a 8cwt body, well at least not the short 1A1 type.

Alex, if you need any details of the body i.e. dimensions - I have the drawings that Ian Richardson (UK) sketched , Ian had access to a original very early 1A2 with the single rear lamp.

It also has the rare speaking-tube panel still fitted to the rear of the cab I have the drawing for this panel.

Hi Mike, thanks for the offer, but I already have them....David Pope sent them to me years ago, but it was you that sent me the Morris PU plans for the scale model I did at the time.

That's exactly what also caught my eye....rare details that aren't covered in Ians drawings. I recon the difference in wood vs steel box/tray for the Wireless might have to do with the type of set fitted. The 8cwt's were originally intended for a WS9 or WS11, but were later replaced with WS19.....which could be the reason for fitting a different (steel) tray (?)

Auction has just about ended, the military stuff is all sold at this point. The CMPs actually sold for reasonable money, with the CAB 13s doing better than the earlier cabs with one exception. Lot 626, which was an early Ford cab and chassis with a pair of fuel tanks on the back deck crossed the $2000 mark. Someone must have had an eye for the early one. This one was actually stored in Mickey's quonset, so some of the wood etc may be in a little better shape than the outdoor ones.

That early 8cwt body went for $126.50.

I picked up some small lots of parts, and I see George got his carrier wheels. I picked up a pallet of parts with an M37 PTO and one side of the winch bumper for $5, and another lot with heaters and an m37 exhaust system for $60. A big surprise was what tires went for. 60 year old M37 tires went for hundreds a lot. I'm not even sure they would be useable.

I noted a lot of things did not make it to this auction. Apparently, the auctioneer stowed two trailers of stuff away for a future auction. I'll advise when the stuff comes up.

That's a good price! I also saw a very nice F8 cab chassis that went for around 600.

I hope everyone had a good time at the auction....and I hope all MV stuff ended up in the hand of MV enthusiasts.

Going once, going twice.... SOLD!

Thanks for the update. I've edited to add the final "SOLD" figures to my postings above.

Sounds like a good result for both the seller and the buyers.

That's a bargain . The selling price reflects the location of the auction. If the auction was held in Europe you could add another 0 to the figure.
