New Zealand ZC1 R.C.U.1
There is a...
REMOTE CONTROL UNIT W.S.Z.C1 - MKII R.C.U.1 (NZ) up for sale today on the UK eBay website. It looks to be all original and in pretty good shape. eBay ID: 356655324494 David |
You're still going to have to add:
1) Shoulder strap with stitched on pouch for the remote unit to set cable. 2) The remote unit to set cable. (4-pin plug to jacks No.9, 10, and a single pin.) 3) Satchel, Signals. 4) Microphone, Hand, No.3 5) Headphones DLR or CLR, Double. (Not to mention duplicating all of that and the remote unit for the other end!) :( |

These New Zealand ZC1 RCU look pretty much the same as a W.S. 11 RCU.
The Aust. Built version of this RCU is relatively common. The instructions inside the lid explain that, the unit is for use with the W.S. No. 1 and W.S. No. 11. Don't know why they included the W.S. 1 , these pre-war sets were only issued in very small numbers here. This Canadian unit is FS here in Aust. I've not seen a RCU like this one, how it made it's way to Aust., is a mystery. |
The ZC1 remote control unit (and the Australian equivalent) is basically a locally produced version of the British "Wireless Remote Control Unit 'A'", for Wireless sets 1 and 11.
The Canadian one is rather later, and intended for the W.S.19 and 52, based on the British Remote Control Unit "B" for the WS9 (later converted to the 'E' for the WS19 and WS52). I think the British ones got as far as 'Q', but the common ones are the E Mk.I (wooden case), Mk.II (steel case), the Canadian No.1, and the 'L' (No.1 & No.2) pair of units for the WS62. (This should really all go in the Wireless rather than the For Sale section.) :D |
If someone buys it, I have these for sale:
4) Microphone, Hand, No.3 @ 15gbp 5) Headphones DLR or CLR, Double @ 25 gbp Post Extra Tim |

The only thing I'm after at the moment are the leather:
Bags, Telephone Receiver and Cases, Message Book, Mk.IV which were superseded by the "Satchel Signals" prior to (or very early in) WW2. (Basically for my webbing collection.) :) I suspect the shipping cost would be prohibitive, and imports might fall foul of various biosecurity measures (Foot & Mouth Disease), these days. :( Chris. |
