Another 1 July Swords & Plowshares run in the books
As is Mike's tradition, all Ottawa area HMV operators are invited to the Canada Day convoy. It was announced on FB to hit the social side of the hobby. Several of Mike's Cadet and reenactor friends were in attendance. I reprised my speaking role as roadmaster.
The Merrickville portion was much better organized than previous. The mayor wrangled the farm tractors, antique cars, the horse riders, the Shriners and their zippy cars, the Catholic Women's Amateur River Widening Society float, and yes - a trailer of pole gymnastics performers. The rusty old trucks were the tail end of the fun, which was fine with me. The minute gun was fired and two choruses of Oh Canada! performed. As usual the gentle souls at the Legion fed and watered us. The parking was not as good for crowd interaction, but their town - their rules. The best part is I know probably more people in that little town than most other small Eastern Ontario towns. Kindred spirits. We received a recce report that Kemptville had cancelled their parade. All gassed up and what to do? We rolled through the main street, pissing off all the motorists! Some banging and clanging, but nothing broken. No injuries and a new guy got to fire the leftover 6-Pdr charge. Good fun all around. |
