Here is a Chev which I thought was a Derrick truck, like Steve Stone's one. Only way to confirm it is the census number, which looks like 4215241.
Can David confirm this number? It is definitely one allocated to the Canadians. If it is a Derrick truck, I can show Steve the exact location to do a "Then and Now" shot. Richard |

C30 12 cab
Nice picture Richard
I'm guessing that this is another in the series of pictures that the Cadman's have enlarged on the wall of their museum?, if it's the set I'm thinking of they were taken in your neck of the woods I believe ?. What is the truck? Could be either a winch truck, or a derrick, I can't see the jack legs at the back so it makes me think it could be a winch truck. If the picture was taken in the south east of England it could be Canadian 1st Div, '48' could be the 2nd Field Park Coy. Do you have any more pictures in the series? Pete |
C30 12 cab
Just looked at the photo closely again, I can see it's fitted with a Ford bonnet just like my C15A, I also have a C60 12 cab LAA that has the same feature. It would appear that there was a period early in the Chevrolet 12 cab run where Chev bonnets were not available.

Pete,
I forgot about those pictures on the wall! This one I came across about 15 years ago at a local rally, as they did no doubt. It is part of a large one and is of a bridging company I would guess. I was going by the height of the tilt frame, knowing that the derrick tilt frame is special to allow clearance to erect it. If Steve would like to re-enact the shot, it is not far from Beltring. Derrrick Truck

I presume its lay out would have been similar to the body on the attached photo of a Ford F60S. Vehicles such as this were also issued to the Australians, as my father found one on its side at Balikpapan in 1945. He recovered it and put to good use changing C-47 engines on the airfield. Presumably the derrick body for sale in Canada is a later version than the one in the photo - just a guess!

There was a Ford Derrick truck of this type in Oshawa about a decade ago. Surprisingly good condition. Sold to a fellow from Quebec for about 1000$ if I remember right.
