Stirrup water pump question

I recently picked a stirrup pump for water and noticed it has the markings "C D" and "D N H" stamped on the handle.
Would anyone possibly know or be able to direct me to what these letters stand for?

Thanks
Walter

Walter,

Any idea where this pump was manufactured and when? Different commonwealth countries had different names ( and initials ) for what was basically the same department. However CD would seem to refer to Civil Defence, which I think was used unchanged in all these countries.

No idea of place of manufacture.
There are no other markings on it that I can see.
The entire piece appears to be made of brass and painted over in red paint with no hose on it.
I picked it up from a garage sale in Saskatchewan,Canada and the person I got it from had bought it at an auction sale, also in Saskatchewan, Canada.
He knew nothing more about it. He thought it was an air pump until after I had bought and paid for it, and I explained it to him.
I do not have access to a camera at this time so cannot put a picture of it up.

Thanks
Walter
