Just been scanning some interesting negatives taken by a pilot of 455 squadron RAAF which operated Beaufighter X operating out of Dallachy in Scotland.

Many of the images covered other interesting subjects, one of which is pictured here.

Any idea as to the type?

BTW The place name is a beaut isn't it?

This was once a Mustang, an early B model which appears to have hit the ground with little forward speed. Hopefully the pilot bailed out successfully.

Keith..
The exhaust and handle bars and hand brake look 350 CC Matchless..41G.3.L..
But the front forks,kick starter,front light and black out are wrong..
That kick starts screams "BRIT!!!!!!"..
Could be Norton or Triumph or BSA...Do Guesses count??
It is NOT a 350CC Matchless...This is....

Well its East Anglia:

taken on a back road just south of Briston looking at the map.

East Anglia was of course covered with airfields and it looks like a RAF uniform.

The photo is a little over contrasted but we can fix that, looks like a hand-change, side-valve single and the silencer is typical of a Sunbeam. Ballard snr would know but he's just gone home; I'll have him look later.

Photo taken at the top end of Norfolk, very early wartime because road signs were removed early on.

The motorcycle was registered in West Sussex, not sure but think it is a BSA B23 35occ sidevalve

Well, can't identify it from a trawl around the classic Brit bike sites on the net, the silencer could be early Norton and the hand-change should be a clue but has led to a dead-end.

The registration listings though give PO + 4 digits as West Sussex C.C. and issued 1929 - 1934 only, so it has to be a model of those years.

Singer registered at Doncaster County Borough Council, South Yorkshire.

As a matter of interest, in the village where I work, there is a specialist who restores these types of Singers and quite often they are seen out on road test.

1927 - 1938 for two letter plates, sometime in '38 they started on ADT + 3 figs.

The motorcyle was registered in February 1931. Singer June 1934.
