The serial number of the engine should start with a TL. Also, the oil cooler outlets are a bit of a giveaway, although I've seen similar ports on some of the other Flathead V8s. Most of the un-origional engines I've seen put into carriers didn't have the oil cooler hooked up.
On my carrier, the engine serial number is within a couple numbers of the carrier serial number, but I'm not sure if this is normal or just a fluke on mine.
