Here are two photos of the same carrier that I recently purchased. It appears to have a rather odd 2 or 3 tone camo scheme applied to it. The carrier number painted on the side armour is T-8554.

Going by the number T8554 this was built bt Thorneycroft in the mid 1939s designated as a MkI.

I wonder where the photgraphs were taken? Were these sent over to Canada for testing or build samples?

That's the Scottish spelling. They don't like to waste vowels (they save them up for gems such as He that blaws in the stour fills his ain e'en). Methinks it has something to do with fine malts and haggis.

Just got another original photo of a MK1 Carrier.

Its number is T143322
Its been named "ELFIN"
An it also has an armoured corps squadron marking for the "HQ" squadron.

The carrier also appears to be in the "foliage" pattern of camo painting.

The caption on the back is "Training with 147 Regt. Royal Armoured Corps - Early 1943" "R.B. (front left) on a Bren Gun Carrier"

Unfourtunately I have no idea who "R.B." is as I haven't yet matched up the initials with any name on the other photos it came with. My research shows that the 147th Regt served with the 34th Army Tank Brigade during the NWE campaign. Its unit sign was a whtie "157" on a green square with a white bar underneath.

Just found this picture and small article tonight while crusing the web.

It says the carriers will do 50mph. Maybe that is when they are going down on of the hills BC is famous for.

I guess if your getting shot at going down a steep hill, you might slip it out of gear, and get up to 50mph. They valve bounce at about 35 in top gear!

Just got this picture.

Its an RHLI Carrier in England, June 1941. Rather a great shot looking down into the drivers compartment. However the really neat thing is the signal flags (disks) that are pictured.
