Super-powered RL!!!

This was either an attempt to speed up the Bedford workhorse with extra power or the 55-mile range Blue Water missile, that was duly cancelled.

Speed up?

With a four speed box and the governor set to 29mph in third gear, I dont think so! the only thing going for it is the aero-dynamics of the cargo. The RL will never be more than a "rolls can ardly", because if you up power the things, you've got serious problems trying to stop 'em.-----Nice pic even if seems that the truck and the rocket come from two different technological ages.
How many mechanics have been injured standing up from a front hub,and hitting their head on the bottom corner of an RL door?

Her's how it was fired...

Note that the chap has lit the touch paper and is laying well back!

Quote:

This missile was cancelled just as it was showing promise. Designed as an air-portable, mobile missile, to be mounted on a 3-ton Bedford truck, with the ability to shoot and scoot. Originally called Red Rose, the missile may have been a modified Red Shoes SAGW, but the requirement demanded a completely new missile.
Cancelled by Harold Macmillan, PM in 1962.

Or recipe for a barbecued

Looks like a good way to put a Bedford on the Barbie. Couple of oil leaks a little petrol leak and poof. I hope that the launch cable is longer than pictured.
