Hi everyone.

I was flipping through the Osprey boook on Universal carriers when i can to the photo on pg. 39. I was looking closely at the engine and noticed that it has what appears to be the "crab" type distributor on it. This is rather interesting as the Carrier is a Mk1 with all stuff removed. The caption says that thr troops are RCEME somewhere in Holland. Im wondering however if the photo is post war with the Dutch army.

Jordan, many of the late model CMP trucks came with the crab style dist. I'm sure an Army refit or maybe late production engine.
In my opinion, the crab stle dist is the way to go with a remote location for the coil atop the engine.
The old style diver helmet distributors are a real pain, difficult to work on and have coils that, unless new, suffer from thermal breakdown very quickly. Even some "NOS" ones are usually junk as the epoxy that is used internally cracks after years of sitting around.

It is a rare beast now and you are the lad to keep it in top shap...
I know with the price of fuel you have to tow it with the old horse team but just to hear it run once in a while would be great..
Bob has started a CMP farm out east of town and needs some cheering on and I'm sure we could arrange a tour of Gracies if you showed up..

Jordan if the 55873 on the side is its WD No. then I can tell you that it was manufactured by Ford Canada as a MkI*, one of 1,421, with the contract completed in June 1944 with WD No. 57059. You often see the MkI* that have survived the early part of the war with the crew kit locker stowed across the front like that, gives extra room in the rear and some protection in the front if you fill it with sand! Many MMG Carriers had this configuration too.

The five digit registration number 55673 is indeed of the type used by the post war Dutch Army. Is that what you were thinking of too?
