CMP Generator Truck

I have recently aquired a C60 generator truck.
The model number of the truck is C-60448-M-GS-9.
I am looking for any pictures of this truck and information on the generators it carried. As I amm new to this hobby any help would be appreciated.

Cheers,
Greg

Welcome to the insanity

Glad to hear that another person has come down with “RATS” rusty army truck syndrome. If you haven’t done so yet follow some of the many web links to CMP web pages. Many members of this forum have a wealth of information available on the web.

To begin with, post some pictures of the truck. I am sure that members of the forum will come forward with information.

THE WRIGHT STUFF!

Greg,

Welcome to the club. As you are already aware, some of us are slightly cuckoo over rusty trucks. Ping me on a PM and I will forward what I have found on your variant.

As well, this is a good place to advertise the parts you are looking for, and list some of the trading items you may wish to swop.

Hi Greg...
Ahhhhh...Pix...
That is an "F" machinery body which was originally designed to go on the C 60X Chassis with one power plant and a bunch of work benches and and somewhere on the plate is a contract #....maybeC.D.LV587..
It looks like the lathes, presses, grinders ,etc were removed and a second APU was installed..
Those are Willys MB engines with 7 1/2 KW generators with Pierce govenors on them..
The manuals I quoted previousley are available and the correct ones for your vehicle.Nice pick...And so close...Have to get together at the next ROT (RUSTY OLD TRUCKS) gatherup...
Coming very soon..

Serial?

Is there a date plate please with the serial and engine number for my database?

Lynn Eades 09-10-05 21:44

Alex

Would you like to re-check your I.D. on those gennie power units?

Greg 09-10-05 21:57

Hi David,

The plate on the dash reads;

C-60448-m
13
3844326725
PR3943506
LV 1515
Nov. 19-43
I can't read all of the above plate yet to what some of the numbers mean.

Parts List C-60L-02
Manual MB-C2

Vehicle Model
C-60448-M-GS-9

Cheers,
Greg

David_Hayward (RIP) 09-10-05 22:28

WOW!

Thanks Greg! Here is a similar truck:
C-60448-M-GS-9

GENERAL MOTORS OF CANADA
CHASSIS C-60448-M
CAB MODEL 13
CHASSIS SERIAL 3844326798
ENGINE NUMBER PR3943551
ORDER LV1515
DATE OF MFG Nov 22-43

This shows you the sort of production rate..725 and 798 a few days apart in theory with engines just a few numbers apart as well which is pretty remarkable given the storage / selection process at Windsor (Walkerville) and Oshawa plants.

Cheers,

David

This is what is supposed to be there..
Willys MB engines with 7 1/2 KW generators with Pierce govenors on them..

I don't have access to the truck to check
7 1/2 KV @125/250V according to the manual..

This was the Mark l "F' type machinery body..

THe Mark ll generator was belt driven off a power take off and and driven off the truck engine..the generator was the Same out puts on the Voltage and amperages..

Jon Skagfeld 10-10-05 01:31

Further, wasn't the 4 cyl MB power plant the "Go Devil" engine?

IIRC, same was used in the PE95 mounted in a 3/4 T trailer, towed behind an M-207.

Phil Waterman 10-10-05 01:49

Looks like a rare find

It always amazes me that unusual trucks like this still turn up. Yours looks like it is very good matieral for restoration. It will be an unusual truck when it is complete. To our readers what is the meaning of the insignia on the side?

Bruce Parker (RIP) 10-10-05 04:11

Machinery "F?"??

Alex et.al: I don't think this body is a Machinery "F' that would have gone on a 6x6. It looks more like the type "B", "D-I" or "Z" (using Bill Gregg's book as a reference) that is correct for a 158" wheelbase 60 cwt like the one it is currently on. The exact type is not in Bill Gregg's book.

Greg, is there another smaller data plate on the dash beside the vehicle plate you've quoted? Is there a plate on the body (maybe along the lower edge on the rear to the left of the rear door) that says what body it is?

Bruce ..You are absolutly correct..The Mark l Machinery"F" body was on the C 60x....The Mark ll (two) "F"body was designed for the C60L.....
The mark l had the Willys MB driving the 7 1/2 KW gennie...
The Mark ll had the 7 1/2 KW gennie driven by a PTO off the truck engine and was belT drive...
Feild openings were cut willy nilly in most of these bodies and the only way to know for sure is the Data plate..sometimes....
Here is the"F" body Mark ll on a C 60 L...

Alex

It doesn't look like a Willys MB to me. The head /water outlet is wrong, the oil pump is not there on the block left side, the breather/oil filler is at the rear right, should be about half way.

Lynn..
I agree with you..not an MB,MA,or GPW engine..(All the same Willys part #)I glanced at it and posted faster than I should have..

I'll have to get some tag info from it and the gennie..//
Good eye..

Thought

Is there a casting mark/name on block and head identifying make?

Phil Waterman 12-10-05 00:18

Believe that it is an IH

Thought the engine looked familiar I have an engine out of a US Navy air conditioning unit which has visually the same 4 cylinder magneto ignition engine made by International Harvester. Also have the manual which is TM 5-9467.

If you need more information I’ll take some good pictures of the engine so we can match them up.

Greg 12-10-05 01:15

Hi,

I will get a better picture of the generator and the name plate and post it tomorrow.
I could not find a name plate on the box.

Take lots and lots of photos as you start your restoration and through the process. I find that they are very useful tool in restoration and reassembly. Plus we will all be interested to see how the process is going.

You most recent photos are 7 years old. Got any fresh ones? A lot can happen to a truck in 7 years, especially if it is stored in the big blue shed. (outside).
