eBay alert!
Watch out boys and girls...something seems to be afoot with a scam relating to eBay.
I just got an e-mail purportedly from eBay, asking that I verify my credit card number. They showed only the last 4 digits and an expiry date. Neither were even close. Since I've never bought anything from eBay, do you wonder why I am a bit concerned about this? FYI, and beware. Delete, delete, delete. |
scam
I've seen that too. Every once in a while, I'll get an email from "EBAY" saying that I have to update my profile and credit card information. I've never given them my credit card info. This is a scam for unsuspecting people who will use this mirror site to update their profile and give all their personal/credit info to thieves. Just send a copy of the email to EBAY security and they can track it down.

Hey, Shawn...Kincardine, eh? We're neighbours!
Yeah, the e-mail smells to high heaven of a dirty scam for unsuspecting people. |
User Beware
This scheme is called "phishing" in the internet world, and it is indeed a big problem. I get them all the time as well, and because I have PayPal, I get the same thing from them. The latter's a bit of a laugh, though, because I get the PP phishing mails to my SUNRAY email address, whereas at PayPal I use my Sympatico address :D
If you do business on the web, anything from buying/selling to web banking, be advised that those companies will NEVER request your personal information from you by email. Do not even be tempted to answer, even those harmless-looking emails asking to confirm your email address (spammer heaven to have a confirmed address), much less those looking to confirm your 10-digit grid coordinates and commo code on this crazy planet. :teach: |
