The right thing to do?

A lesson for Britain & America??? This is copied from an email that we received today.

Australia has it right

I think everyone has a right to live in any country they choose to be fortunate to be accepted in ,,, BUT I TRULY BELIEVE, YOU ABIDE BY THEIR RULES AND REGULATIONS AND DON'T EXPECT TO LIVE AS YOU DID IN YOUR OWN COUNTRY ....... IF THAT IS WHAT YOU WANT ,,,, THEN, STAY WHERE YOU ARE........

Get out if you want Sharia law, Australia tells Muslims CANBERRA: Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on Wednesday to get out of Australia, as the government targeted radicals in a bid to head off potential terror attacks. A day after a group of mainstream Muslim leaders pledged loyalty to Australia at a special meeting with Prime Minister John Howard, he and his ministers made it clear that extremists would face a crackdown. Treasurer Peter Costello, seen as heir apparent to Howard, hinted that some radical clerics could be asked to leave the country if they did not accept that Australia was a secular state and its laws were made by parliament. "If those are not your values, if you want a country which has Sharia law or a theocratic state, then Australia is not for you," he said on national television. "I'd be saying to clerics who are teaching that there are two laws governing people in Australia, one the Australian law and another the Islamic law, that that is false. If you can't agree with parliamentary law, independent courts, democracy, and would prefer Sharia law and have the opportunity to go to another country which practises it, perhaps, then, that's a better option", Costello said.
Asked whether he meant radical clerics would be forced to leave, he said those with dual citizenship could possibly be asked move to the other country. Education Minister Brendan Nelson later told reporters that Muslims who did not want to accept local values should "clear off". "Basically, people who don't want to be Australians, and they don't want to live by Australian values and understand them, well then they can basically clear off," he said. Separately, Howard angered some Australian Muslims on Wednesday by saying he supported spies monitoring the nation's mosques. AMERICANS.....ARE YOU LISTENING?

Jon Skagfeld 09-10-05 20:50

Dave: You targetted Americans by asking if they were listening. You might also have targetted Canadians.

We just went through a spate of pro Sharia law crap which finally, wisely, got shot down after much dithering.

I wish our Canadian politicians had the balls that the Australians appear to have.

In a nutshell...If you don't like my country, its values and its way of life, then get the hell out. Better yet, as far as Canada goes, our Immigration set up should be totally revamped. As it is now, we're the laughing stock of all Third World "refugees" who fraudulently set foot in Canada. This action is encouraged by the Liberal Federal government in outright blatant currying (word choice intentional) of votes.

Rant ends...for now.

DaveCox 09-10-05 22:14

Jon, the original email that I cut and pasted targetted America, I reckon Britain could actually gain more. The "wimps in westminster" are so frightened of offending imigrants that we are only marginally still predominantly a Christian nation.

cliff 09-10-05 22:58

While I concider myself to not being a racist I agree with what the Govt has said on this.

It is not just Muslins that should heed this but all the folk who wish to live here in Australia.

Having come from New Zealand originally to this wonderful land of Oz I even had to stop cheering for the All Blacks when they played the Aussie national team.....er ah what was their name..... :D .

cheers

You mean it isn't???? LOL

I'm not a racist either, but I am incensed by the preference given to imigrants of all colours, races & religions over our own people.(Mostly down to politicians that aren't even voted for by us!!)

chris vickery 10-10-05 02:45

In a recent decision on Parliament Hill, the Canadian government has decided that we need to increase immigration from it's current status of approx 250,000 to another 100,000 for a total sum of 350,000 per year. Talk about Liberals buying votes.
As said before, I am proud of my WASP heritage and all these immigrant really twist my a** in a knot.
If you'd like to come here, enjoy our country, it's opportunities and lifestyle. If you want to come over, stir up a bunch of s**t, preach nonsense etc, then plain and simple, don't come.
Our forefathers and veterans didn't bust their nuts by working hard and sacrificing lives so a bunch of ungrateful deadbeats could come over and mess with our way of life. I find it ironic that these same people, for the most part, are fleeing countries where opportunity is non-existant, police states, poverty etc is the norm, yet come here and want it their way.
Quite simple folks: come, enjoy, work hard, fit in or F.O. We don't need your crap.

Canadians (and others) may not be completely up to speed on the Australian political scene, so a Who's Who may be of help. John Howard is our Prime Minister of the Coalition Liberal-National government, and his Deputy is the leader of the coalition partner, the National Party. John Howard's Heir Apparent in the Liberal Party is the Treasurer, Peter Costello and Number Three is the Health Minister Tony Abbott. John Howard is 64 years old and has been murmuring about retiring for some time, but he keeps getting re-elected which tends to put a hold on his plans. But IF he does retire and his sucessors take up the challenge, would Australia be treated with any seriousness if we were led by Abbott and Costello?

Jon Skagfeld 10-10-05 06:55

Ohhh...Beauty riposte, Tony!:salute:

We North Americans have to keep reminding ourselves, however, that your Liberals are our Conservatives (or, American Republicans).

Jon Skagfeld 10-10-05 07:08

Chris Vickery:

Further to your post.

How did you like the fact that the past Immigration Minister, Judy Sgro, authorized the admission into Canada of 400+ HIV positive Third World people PER YEAR (!) on compassionate grounds.

In the province of Ontario alone, there is a shortage of 2100 GPs. That extrapolates to 1.2M citizens without a family doctor. Yet 400 HIV positives will be allowed into Canada, placing a much greater burden on the health care system.

Yes our absolutely insane Immigration Department allows the above to happen. Just where the hell are the medical facilities to treat these HIV positive people? Doesn't the old axiom "Charity belongs at home" apply here?

Man...I could rant for hours about our Liberal idiots at both the Federal and Provincial level.

'nite, all.

A new example !!

A group of muslims have approached McGill University, complaining that they don't have a proper prayer room.McGill has advised that, because of the smallness of the institution, there is no available space left. They have gone public to the TV news media complaining that this is their religious right, and the rant goes on.

FV - we've previously established that you and I should be in charge of this Sceptic Isle !!!

The latest around here is that an Italian single parent, with one son, has been given, rent free (at the tax payers expense) a three-bedroom house - whilst I work for a living and have 4 of us in a 2-bedroom flat............ pissed off or what

When that happens, call me and I'll be right over!

Ah yes, the Multicultural Morass. I'm not referring, of course, to the people themselves, who are for the most part, peaceable people only looking for a better life; I refer instead towards a system which would allow them more rights than those of us whose ancestors built the societal framework which attracted these people to begin with, and which politicians have taken to abusing for their own nefarious means. It is the latter class of untermenschen who offend me more, and regrettably, forces me to echo previously-expounded phrases like "...if you don't like it here, GET OUT".

Unfortunately, it won't happen. We need our own country (back). Dave and Richard, get on with it will you? Chop-chop, there's a good lad.

And Jon... Charity DOES begin at home...

Funny how things come 'round in circles isn't it, Cliff?

chris vickery 12-10-05 00:43

Kinda ironic how certain ethnic groups become quite lippy when they no longer have guns held to their heads...
Go shoot your mouths off in places like Saddam era Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Mogadishu, N Korea etc.
At the risk of being offensive, I kinda wonder if many of these individuals almost like or need oppression to keep them in line?
If one looks at places like the Balkans for example this is really true. The Commie gov't kept the peace during the Cold War years to keep the ethnics groups from killing each other. Throw out the communists regime and the next thing you have is a major civil war, ethnic cleansing etc.
If the gov't is looking for volunteers to help repatriate those who don't like things here ( or in the UK, or Oz), I"m sure they can find some. I'd personally drive some to the airport or docks...
I would like to think that if I wanted to emmigrate to India or Pakistan that I would try to fit into the culture rather than be a misfit and social outcast... Maybe I'd even look good in a turban??? LOL:p

chris vickery 12-10-05 13:37

Something that I was wondering about, maybe someone here has the answer.
As far as emergency foreign aid goes, does the government have an amount on hand or a budgetary amount set aside for such situations?
The reason that I ask is that I think it is almost criminal how we can spend millions of dollars aiding countries that we will never get paid back for, yet if a charitable group wants money here its a "federal case". Going back to an earlier comment, charity should begin at home. We have thousands of homeless and needy persons here who could sure use some help from the feds, yet they haven't the money to increase spending on domestic social programs. Funny how they can pull millions out of their hat when a foreign country demands help...Considering it is our money paid through ridiculously high taxes.

c. ladouceur (RIP) 12-10-05 23:55

Canadian ,eh?/"Let them eat cake"

Chris,
The amount set aside is called," your wallet"/ "future pension"/"your health care"/"etc. Really sucks,"don't it"!

Chris: I don't have an answer, but can further buttress your observations.

Exactly how does the Canadian Federal government come up with millions of dollars to assist Third World countries who are subject to natural disasters? These countries typically demanded that they unshackle themselves from Colonial rule and, with independence, they would be a free nation.

A free nation implies sustainability and self governance. Why the Hell are we sending money (which doesn't even get to the intended people) over and over again. I didn't see Pakistan, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Indonesia etc sending any aid to Canada when we had the Red River floods, the BC forest fires, Hurricane Hazel, the 1998 ice storm, etc.

Not only do we send millions of MY tax money to these TCNs, we also forgive 50 BILLION of foreign loans...again MY tax money.

I am completely fed up with the Liberal Federal government and it's Foreign Affairs/Immigration buffoonery. We are being "led" by a bunch of screeching left wing harridans and incompetent self serving twits whose social engineering protocols assume that I can't think for myself, and be responsible for my own actions.

Anyone want to know what I really think?

"I love my country, but I hate my government".

Gee Jon, tell us what you REALLY think... :D :D :D :D :D :D

I'm on yer side, bub. We have people - city folk and natives alike - starving here, yet we pass out cash to third world dictators' Swiss bank accounts (call me cyncial, but they haven't accounted for a dime of the half-billion sent after the tsunami), yet our own people are going hungry. I can hardly afford to pay my own bills, and this winter is going to be the harshest ever in terms of the demands upon my pocketbook. Go figger.

Guess what - same over here too - just announced a total of £12million to the Pakistan earthquake, and we've got homeless people, hospitals closing because of no cash etc etc etc.

cliff 13-10-05 13:46

After sending Billions to Indonesia at Christmas for the tidal wave victoms we have sent 10 million to Parkistan for the earthquake as well. Not sure if any went to Central America after the Hurricane down there or not though as our media hardly ever mentions them.

We also have all the povity and homelessness here in Aust. that you all have so it is not just a one country problem. So it seems polititions world wide are all the same type of A$$ H***s.... big fib telling, smelly and dishonest

And what was your first clue?

We need to "take back" our nations. What we see now wasn't what our forefathers envisioned when they ventured out into the wilderness to make a better life for themselves.

Jif
Our forefathers elected polititions that were accountable to the people..

Accountability should be our first demand of our elected officials..

If they don't do what they are elected to do,never mind suck-holing to the PMO's office..drag them back to their wards or districts and sting 'em up...

If they are caught lieing ,cheating ,stealing from the public purse..sting 'em up...

By gar..then we may have some...er..excuse the oxymoron..."Honest polititions" that work for us...

Drinkin' and screwin' is ok...even polititions need some R&R....

foreigners

You all remember the stories about the canadian Matthew that stayed with us for sometime, he has an aussie girl living over there with him at the moment and they are having trouble getting permission for her to stay permanent over there, so get in there and support them in their adventure.

Max

chris vickery 17-10-05 02:02

Max, I know a fellow who is staying here in my town from NZ.
He has had a heck of a time maintaining his stay. For the last while, he has had to make the journey back home a couple times per year and stay there for a certain time in order to have his visa granted. Pretty bad as far as I'm concerned as he is definately more Canadian than most of the newcomers here. I should also mention that he has his own money, being retired from sheep farming and has family who maintains his holdings back home. He doesn't cost our gov't one red cent.
I believe, that as in the amalgamated European Union, that us folks from the Colonies should be able to travel, work and live freely amongst our own. Inconceivable how a Pakistani can come over no problem but a mate from Oz or NZ gets the run around...

Tony Smith 17-10-05 08:19

I agree on the Colonials sticking together bit. For an Australian with British parents, we had more trouble entering England than EU nationals. Queing up in the aliens line while Germans and French got the express treatment. Heck, we'd only come over to visit OUR Queen!
Aust and NZ have a very good relationship and it's possible to travel and stay freely in either country with all Immigration, Welfare and financial arrangements completely reciprocal. We might allow Canada back into our Circle of Trust if you get into your old habit again of shipping CMPs over here.

Tony times have changed. Kiwis' now need a residency visa which is similar to the paper work for Citizenship including a clearance from the NZ police that you have not been a naughty person before being allowed to stay for long.

This 'free' entry to NZ citizens changed in 2000 and has been made tougher since as well. Mind you to even the odds out a bit once you are elegable to apply for Australian citizenship it is a bit easier as most of the difficult paperwork was worked out at the permanent residency stage. I am not sure of the reverse system now where Aussies what to live in NZ permanently.

Emigration Win Win

Back when Sir Robert Muldoon was the Prime minister and many Kiwi's were heading to Australia to live. Mr Muldoon said this; Those Kiwi's going to Austrailia were raising the I.Q of both countries. - Howzat for a win win situation Cobber?
Just a note for Chris V.- Pakistan was one of those colonies.
