All,

I found this in a action catalogue dated october 1971.

The auction was held at J Hirst & Sons St. Mary Bourne, Andover, Hampshire..

Included in the action was several Daimler Dingo's. Austin K9'S and a selection of bren gun carriers.

Here is a photo of one of the bren gun carriers and a page from the auctioners booklet with prices of what they went for.

It is good to see a completley unmiliestered bren gun carrier. Complete with markings etc.

Unmolested?

The spotlight is from a Ferret and it appears the armour around the Gunner's front has been cut away. The large calibre bullet holes in the side would make a whistling sound at highway speeds, too! But for a hundred quid, I wouldn't complain!

Tony,

That spotlight is pre-Ferret, it is the Simms lamp fitted to many WW2 tanks and before. I fitted one on the recent Vickers restoration, it was original spec. for it. Also, a near neighbour of yours, at Bilpin, has a new one for his Matilda, supplied by yours truly.

The odd point I have to make about these carriers is the "T No.". It is odd to find any so low and consecutive, maybe they were some kind of training aid and that is what this number identifies. There is a British built carrier near here, being rebuilt and that one had the pulpit cut away just the same and it is believed to have been in Danish (?) army service as a dummy tank. I think it had some kind of superstructure or frame built onto it, presumably the armour on the front, got in the way.

Richard
