WW2 American field kitchen
 

I have been offered a 1944 field kitchen unit, the set up is about 3 foot long two foot wide and 2 foot high it is new and all components are unused. Made by Chrysler I thought it would look good in my WC51. The unit consists of petrol powered burner tray and a clip off bain maree section with 6 aluminium containers for heating food. There are ladels and utensils included in the trays all new.
Are these kitchens a common item or are they hard to find? any other info out there on them?

Hello Mark. I scour all the Flea markets within a 100 mile radius of where I live near Dallas, including Canton which is world famous for being one of the largest flea markets in N. America. I have seen only one of these kitchens for sale ever. It was at Canton first weekend this month and somebody beat me to it. The seller was asking $200.00 and eventually sold it for $125.00. It would probably fetch a lot more on ebay. They seem to be rare so I'd grab it pronto!:cheers:

I think that the square looking US cooking facility is called:
M-1937 army field range. I have some repro manuals/instructions for there for sale through Groucho Publishing

There is quite a number of these availbale here in the Netherlands through Ries Groenewoud, who seems to buy them in France from Army disposal auctions.

Just picked one of these units up from fellow mlu'er Jon Skagfeld.
It is the third one I've seen around these parts in the last year.
One sold at John Adamiak's (late) auction a couple months ago for around $60 Canadian.

Hi Mark,

I got one of those from Warwick Lord a few years back, he bought a few from the Aussie army auctions at Moorebank.
This one was made by Chrysler in 44, all unused, some of the tools and utensils had been sutituted for later ones, guess the knives may have had rust on them, kit was totally complete even with a photocopy of the TM.

Here is a picture of all the components, hexagonal cardboard box contains the stacking chimney sections.

The Kitchen that you had aquired is the same as mine. I do spot a couple of differances with the utensils. Mine had a checklist within the box and all items are there bar a sharpening stone. All utensils are stored in canvas rolls and bags with pockets. I have sent images to Kieth Web as for the life of me I cant fet an image up on the Forum.
