Alice Springs

"Young" Max is trying to get the LandCruiser up the sand dune. Pic was taken in 1994 near Alice Springs. Any comments for that?

What area on what base does this remind you of? |
hmmmm... Could it be the figure 8 driving course in Blackdown Park at Camp Borden, Ontario? It sure reminds me of a rather young Staff Sgt in the 1960s climbing a Triumph motorcycle up that slope in a race with others of the same ilk. Then, there were the climbs in 3/4 ton Dodges (1954 issue), the Jeeps (same vintage), the douce-and-a-halfs (same vintage), the Iltis and, last but not least the beloved Grizzlies. Some made it and some didn't. :salute:
Then again, it could be someplace else because I don't see the deep ruts in the sand that we created. |

The base has gone environmentally nuts recently...absolutely none of what we did back then is allowed. All training area entrances are now gated and keys controlled by Range Control. Can't even go joy riding in the sand dunes out by Pylon Hill...so just where does the military get to teach water fording, deep sand operation, hill climbing, etc? Jeez, even the marine drive was removed from the beloved Grizzlies...of course swimming would now be banned anyway, because of the potential for fluid leaks. Go ahead...age me...but I miss the "good ol' days". Sigh. |
Never Go Away on Holidays
Euan as you may be aware I have been away for a little while and see that you have been up to all sorts of Mischief. I will arrange a photo post shortly that the rest of MLU can dream up captions for. PS you Know the one! ;)
